vomiting and diarrhea

My 14 month old has been vomiting all day. He has vomited 6 times since 1 am. its now 4:30 pm. He has had diarrhea once. He generally seems pretty happy though. He's nursed several times and had some pedialyte. the only thing he's eaten is a banana and threw it up about an hour later. I called the doctors office and they said just to keep an eye on him, give him a bland diet and make sure he nurses and drinks some pedialyte. Should I be more concerned? I've given him nux vomica for the vomiting. He has only had 2 wet diapers since early this morning. No fever. Experienced mamas, help! what are signs of dehydration I should look out for?

Poor baby! DS was sick like this 3 times last spring, and I was so worried about him.

Does your LO have a fever at all?

The one thing our doctor told us when DS was sick last year was that as long as he had a wet diaper every 8 hours he was fine in terms of dehydration. So if he goes more than 8 hours between wet diapers call the doctor back. I think if he's nursing and taking in pedialyte he won't have a problem.

Hope he feels better soon!

If you pinch the skin on the back of their hands and it stays in a peak they are dehydrated. If it goes flat immediately they are doing ok.

We had a bad bought of diarrhea/vomiting last weekend. It was really upsetting. I'll cross my fingers that yours passes as fast as ours did.

Oh, and chicken broth has a lot of the same sorts of electrolytes that Pedialyte has and it's a whole lot tastier. (Electrolytes are basically salts and they help your body absorb water instead of just letting it pass through. At least that is my understanding. I could be wrong. I won't make my kid drink Pedialyte cause I think it tastes disgusting. )
