Anyone else already have a special needs baby?

Is anyone else already dealing with special needs or serious health issues with their LO?

I've posted about this a couple of times before and right after DD was born. She had an arrythmia from 40 weeks on. We were told it would likely clear up on its own within a few days of her being born. It didn't. Now that we've gone to a pediatric cardiologist we know that she has a hole in her heart (called an Atrial Septal Defect) which will hopefully clear up on its own, but if it doesn't we're looking at open heart surgery. She also has Premature Ventrical Contractions (which create the arrhythmia we hear). Hopefully she'll outgrow those too. For the moment, we're not medicating for them, but we go on Tuesday for another EKG to make sure that she doesn't need meds.

This is really scary for me. Its not really affecting her on a day-to-day basis at this point, but still. My baby could have open heart surgery, you know? ...or worse.
We're not the type to cosleep longer than we have to, but both DH and I have said that there's no way she's moving out of our room for a while.

Anyway, is anyone else dealing with any type of medical issues already? Care to commiserate? It really does put a damper on the babymoon.

Oh Honey, that must be so utterly terrifying. Talk about not getting any sleep...you must just be beside yourself. I am sorry I dont remember reading this before hand...it's awful news. I will be sending you and your LO lots of strengthening vibes and positive energy. I am so sorry you are facing this.

None of my children are special needs but I have gone through a scary time with my ds when he was small.
When my ds was 8 weeks old, I went to get him from the bassinet (I heard him making noises only a few minutes prior) and he was having what we now know was an absence seizure. I thought he was dead, he was so still and unresponsive. Then he had two more within a few minutes. Scared me like i"ve never been scared before. He had them for the next 3 months and it never got easier. Thankfully he hasn't had a single one since but I'll never forget the fear of not not knowing what was going on with my little man.

So while his medical issues aren't nearly as scary as your dd's and they thankfully went away, I do know how scary the unkown is. BIg hugs to you and your family.

Oh I'm so sorry!
We've been lucky and have no special needs.
My husband though had open heart surgery when he was 9 months old. He's now a healthy grown man, who's fathered 2 babies!
much love!

I don't currently have a special needs baby, but with my Gabbie, she was very special needs. And we, too, co-slept with her while she was with us. I could never have forgiven myself if I had put her in another bed and she had a problem (or worse). Just having her near me helped me to sleep better.

I hope your LO does great and that you soon find your rhythm and can sleep well.

We're actually agnostic, but I'll take all the good thoughts we can get! So, yes, prayers and good, heathy vibes are more than appreciated.
