my kids all have had a really nasty cough for 3-4 weeks DD was on an antibiotic to help because she was so congested in her lungs is there somthing that you would give you kids 6 mo, 2, 3, and 9 to help or let it runs its course doc prescribed this http://www.drugs.com/guaifenesin.html but I don'y know how I feel about taking it

That is the same med that is in M*ucinex and regular R*obitussen. I wouldn't give it to the two little ones but I would give it to the older kids with no problem following appropriate dosing instructions. It is pretty safe.

If you want to keep natural, with the older children you can give them honey in hot tea. The honey is a demulcent (which means it helps soothe the mucus membranes and soothes the cough).

Either way, make sure they get lots of liquids to keep the mucus thin so that they can get the gunk up easier.
