Pooping & peeing on the floor & sometimes the bath

Ds, 13 months, has started pooping and peeing when he's naked after a bath. Often, he's already recently had a poop and I don't think he's doing it because he needs to go. He also poops in the bath or shower on occasion. We don't ec and haven't started PLing yet. Is this a potty opportunity, or is something else going on?

Its probably b/c he is relaxed after a nice bath!

Keep a potty (or get a potty seat) and put him on it while you dry him off. You dont have to potty train or EC, but getting him used to going in the potty sometimes is always a good thing and less mess!

DS will poop or pee on the floor/bath/WHEREVER! if he has to go. He will also ask to sit on the potty from time to time, but has only actually pooped on the potty once.

I don't think my DS is ready for PL'ing yet, since he usually asks to sit on the potty AFTER he goes. I think once they start telling you when they have to poop or pee, they are more ready for PL'ing.

If you can tell and the potty isn't scary, you're only hurting both of you if you don't try.

Sorry if ECing scares you , you can call it "giving him a chance to use the potty" if you want to instead.

But really, that's all ECing is. Anything beyond "hey, I know he has to poop, so I'll let him try on the potty instead of in his pants" is just details.

Not scared! I was just giving it as background info I.e he's not used to anything but diapers. It just seems like he's very determined to poop whenever he has his diaper off. E.g., I'll take him out of the bath and as soon as I put him on the floor, he'll take a couple of steps away from me, squat, and try and poop (often it's clear he doesn't "need" to go).

Our DS pooped in the bath every night no matter what our timing was for a while, and now he doesn't do it anymore come to think of it! I guess he outgrew it.

I use the times when ds pees on the floor to point it out to him that he's doing it. I figure it'll help him to associate the feeling he's experience with what is happening.
