So sorry you are in the hospital - but so good to hear that your baby is getting good care.

We're home!!!!!! The hospital was very supportive of breastfeeding. He has been nursing CONSTANTLY. More than he did as a newborn!. He is holding food down and is himself again. Still has a lot of recovering to do but at least he is acting like himself. I want to go kick that doctor who told me he wasn't that dehydrated and my own ped who was so lax about returning my pages. This was some nasty bug he had. I can't even quite believe it all happened. Worse than labor. I am changed.

I want to thank you PatioGardner for checking in with us and for telling me to go to the hospital. I was on that trajectory anyway but hearing it from you gave me more confidence or drive or something. I guess my intuition was that something was really wrong even though the docs didn't seem so concerned.

I am still getting my brain around all of this but my baby is home and we're nursing in our rocking chair.

Just saw this thread for the first time and I am so glad to hear that baby is feeling better and you are home.

When ds2 was 13 months old he got a horrible stomache virus and threw up every hour for an entire week (literally 6-7 days, night and day). He lost weight, wouldn't eat anything, but still nursed and was not showing signs of dehydration so we just kept nursing and he eventually got better.

I am so proud of you for trusting your instincts to keep nursing and for knowing when to get medical help. You are an awesome mama! Sometimes little ones just get sick, but you handled it the best possible way and everyone did their part to make him better again.

This was what I was always told. One day I was sitting in the ER (with bronchitis) and I overheard a doctor tell the parents of a sick baby, she had the flu (high fever, throwing up, etc), to stop all solids and just give her formula (not BF baby). He said it was a myth about the milk being bad for sick babies. Babies with the flu will throw up no matter what you give them to drink and BM or formula is better than any thing else to keep them hydrated. This was probably 12 years ago.

Glad to hear baby is doing better.

Baby #1 is like reading the instructions on a fire extinquisher while the fire is engulfing the whole living room. I always felt 3 steps behind and helpless. It doesn't help when you find out, after the fact, that the people that should have had the answers were even more clueless.
