Gluten free...weight loss and constant hunger?

Ian has been gluten free for...a little over a month? With great results!! But I've noticed something recently...he's lost 2 pounds and he's constantly saying "I'm hungry" (constantly!). He IS eating, we've found substitutes for most of his favorite foods, and he eats a good variety of foods, so there's many meals that were already gluten free. Why is he hungry, and why is he losing weight?

I thought the constant hunger might be a growth spurt, but the weight loss? He weighs himself every morning (I think he just likes to play with the scale, it's digital and beeps and it's cool to a kid) and he's been 44.5 pounds for like 3 months straight. Now the last 3 mornings he's been 42.5 pounds consistently.

What's going on?

[he'll be 5 in March]

Only in my personal experience, as it didn't happen with the kiddos! I retained a ton of water and had a lot of inflammation from the gluten. The puffiness went away right away as my body began to balance out. Are you feeling concerned? I would get it checked out if so. He sounds to be a healthy weight for a boy of his age. ( my 6.5 year old is pretty small and is the same weight)

dd and i both went gf a few months ago, and between the two of us, we experienced both of those things. she was always hungry at first, eating like she never had in the past. and i lost several pounds unintentionally. both of these things leveled out in the two of us, and i think they were probably signs of good things happening. if you're worried, i'd watch it for the next month. weight loss over the course of a few days wouldn't necessarily concern me, but that's just me.

that's what i was suspecting...that he was retaining something and now that he's off gluten, he's dropping a little weight.

i guess i'm not hugely concerned, he's a healthy weight, but it's definitely noticeable to me.

i'll keep an eye on it and make sure he doesn't drop much more weight though.
