How to get ds into numbers?

He just isnt interested at all. I try to count things often (like books when we put them away, or the number of grapes on his plate etc.)

But other than that I dont know how to teach him numbers/counting?

He is 2.5 and doing GREAT with letters/reading.

He's probably not interested in numbers because he's going great guns in reading. Unless kids are constrained by a school curriculum, they tend to learn concepts and skills in bursts, with other areas taking the back burner until they've finished with the burst and integrated the new learning. I'd just leave it be if it were me.

I think it sounds like you're doing just fine. I'd just keep up exactly what you're doing- introducing numbers & counting to him on a regular basis. Eventually he will surprise you by suddenly counting to 15 out of the blue! (That's what my own 2 yr old did!)

I think you should keep modeling counting naturally, but not get concerned about the numbers thing for a couple years. Being interested in letters at two is really a big thing. A lot of children don't start reading and counting until kindergarten and they learn things just fine because they are developmentally ready. You can't force learning before a child is developmentally ready to learn. You can force rote memorization sometimes, but even that is iffy.

Thanks!

I'm just going to focus on the letters then because HE wants to learn them (he constantly asks 'whats that word start with?', and 'what letters have you got in your name?').

So far he seems like I am, I was reading at a young age because I loved it, but still hate numbers!
