DD(4) had her first speech eval (was dx with SPD and low tone in December and has been getting OT since then...I've suspected ASD for a while now, but we haven't had an eval)
Preschool Language Assessmenthad her first speech eval-- Goldman-Fristoe and Preschool Language Assessment. She scored in the 14th percentile (2yrs 6 mos) on the GF and in the 96th (6yrs 11mos) on the PLA. ST thinks the articulation issues are mostly from low tone in her mouth and inability to dissasociate her tounge and mouth. There may be a hearing issue, too, as all her vowel sounds are incorrect. We go for a hearing test Monday.
Anyway. I haven't had a chance to ask the ST yet, but wondering does the PLA test for ASD markers? DD very clearly had a response to a few of the pages--She was participating fairly well with the ST until the page of a boy's face. He was crying. ST asked something like 'What is the boy doing?' DD looked away, hid her face, and it took prompting to get her to mumble 'crying'. She reacts similarly to people/faces in other situations--poor eye contact with strangers/peers, refuses to look at/do some activities with 'faces'--will only color pictures of animals, hates dolls, etc.
She also reacted similarly to the part of the PLA that asked her to direct a question to the ST. When the ST prompted her to say her (the STs) name, DD got flustered, embarrased and then mumbled/rapidly spoke the question. She *is* very slow to warm up and shy (for lack of a better descriptor) with people, but she had been animatedly interacting with the ST for the last hour before this.
Just wondering what, if anything, to make of this. We're scheduled for an appt. with a holistic Dev. Ped in April (she does nutrition counseling, vitamin testing, etc) but she doesn't take insurance and I'm not sure we'll be able to keep the appointment.
Not sure at this point whether to even persue the ASD testing...I'm very wary of misdiagnosis and the possiblity of possible giftedness playing a part in that. She has other quirks that may be ASD related, but I'll leave those for another post.
