difference with changing boy & girl diapes

Besides the obvious parts difference.

My #1 is a boy. I am due to have a girl soon. My Mom & sister (who has a DS) are making me crazy & nervous about how easily girls can get bladder infectionsfrom changing the diap the wrong way.

They keep stressing to use baby wipes Every...Single...Time...
And to make sure I always wipe front to back - which seems obvious to me anyway. And to be very - very careful!!

Then a friend told me there is a coating of estrogen around the girl parts when they are first born - is this true??

I have never heard that about the estrogen coating, and I would think that using wipes would be worse. If little girls get bladder and urinary tract infections easier from bubble baths than plain water baths, wouldn't shoving something scented and soapy in there to wipe with be a bad idea?

I think they are causing you undue stress honestly, I've had two girls and didn't go to any extra trouble and neither has ever had a bladder infection.

I have 3 of each, and girls aren't any harder to change. I've only ever used plain water on cloth wipes. Anything else would be very irritating. If you do get a really messy poopy diaper, giver her a bath instead of trying to wipe excessively.

None of my kids have ever had a bladder infection.

I have a girl and boy and I don't do anything different for the girl. She's never had a problem, water is really enough to clean a baby bottom.

I've never heard about the coating of estrogen, but I did notice (and read about in the Dr. Sears book) that some girls have some white discharge that might be the coating that you mentioned.

Also, just FYI: some girls have a little bit of blood in the dipe right after birth. All the books and my midwives say it's totally normal and just her body reacting to all the hormones in the breastmilk, but it sounds like you don't need the stress of unexpectedly seeing blood.

FWIW, my DD gets all her outside crevices wiped down with a water/babyoil/babywash solution at most diaper changes, but rarely has the inside of her labia wiped and hasn't has any sort of UTI.
