kicking

ds is almost 6mo and has started kicking and thrashing around in his sleep. I've tried adding layers of clothing, subtracting layers of clothing, changing his diaper, and we are already dairy, soy and peanut free. we hsven't swaddled him since he was a month old. he is working on getting onto his hands/knees and sitting on his own so I'm wondering if this is just a phase related to development or if he needs his own space. not sure if he's teething yet, everything goes in his mouth but I don't see any tooth bumps yet. any ideas?

our queen bed isn't big enough for him to continue doing this, and the room is too small to side car the crib without major rearranging. I have put him in the crib a few times early in the morning (like 5:30am-7:00am, he starts thrashing so I move him to the crib, he doesn't even wake up or cry) and he seemed to sleep more peacefully (but then I couldn't sleep without him next to me ) I don't really want to move him to the crib.

Can I ask why you stopped swaddling? I think swaddling might help.

Just as an aside, I stopped swaddling at around 2 months and really came to regret it! I think DS truly needed to be swaddled to be calm and I interpreted his movement to mean that he didn't like being swaddled - fairly sure I was wrong there!

I never really got the hang of it, even in the special swaddling blanket with velcro. He'd always break free so I gave up. He isn't waking himself up when he kicks, just me but maybe I'll try swaddling again.

My 5mo has been thrashing in his sleep since he was a month old. He does it whenever he's about to awaken. Sometimes i can get him to stop by patting him on his back or bum. When that doesn't help, i stick my boob into his mouth -- works every time.
