Info on Asherman's Syndrome or Uterine Synechiae?

Hi all,

Hope it's okay to post this here. I'm having trouble finding info on birth outcomes after a pregnancy in which a uterine synechiae is identified. I saw a reference to this in another post somewhere, but I'm having trouble finding info as it relates to birth/c-section probabilities rather than fertility treatments.

Basically, I had a uterine band across the top right portion of my uterus that was identified at 18 weeks via U/S and confirmed at 25 weeks by a peri. A portion of the placenta also stretched along the wall of the band. I have had no previous surgeries on my uterus, fertility treatments/procedures, or abortive procedures. My attempted natural birth failed: 30 hours of back labor, fully dilated 1/2 way through, baby would not descend into canal, fetal distress (heart rate staying very very high), c-section on Valentine's Day '09.

I would like to attempt a VBAC in the future but am nervous that the uterine band will reappear... Is this related to an increase incidence of c-sections? What do uterine bands during a pregnancy mean to subsequent pregnancies/births?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Casey

ETA: I'm not looking for medical advice, just references for more info on uterine synechiae as it relates to issues other than fertility (like VBACs or IUGR). My background info is provided to give any idea of where I'm coming from. Thanks again for the help!

I did not take the time to look up specific info, but the issue with Asherman syndrome is that it usually affects the cervix and prevents it from dilating properly. If your issues are not around the cervix, your odds of a vaginal birth would be greatly improved. I would recommend seeing a gynecologist before getting pregnant again to evaluate the situation. Perhaps a surgery before pregnancy would be indicated in your situation. Any abnormality within the uterine cavity can also be problematic when you will be trying to get pregnant again so it makes sense to take care of it beforehand.
