donating diapers???

I don't know if this is where to ask this but here goes...

I am selling my NB stash on craigslist and I got an email from someone saying they are collecting cloth diapers (specifically prefolds) to send to an orphanage in Haiti. I did a quick google search and the websites I found said that yes, cloth diapers are needed but mostly fitteds, pockets and AIOs, so I don't know if this is a scam or what, has anyone been approached like this? And how do you think one would go about verifying organizations etc.?

hmmm...not sure on that specific agency. But our church did do a cloth diaper drive for a mexican orphanage. In our case we donated $ per dozen and the church took care of getting them to the orphanage.

Perhaps the red cross would have info?

I don't know about that issue specifically, but a local cloth diapering store is also taking cloth diaper donations for Haiti, and it got me thinking.

Is there ample clean water with which to wash diapers there right now? It seems to me that disposable diapers would be much more needed and useful at the moment. I would worry that cloth dipes would be reused before washing, or not washed well enough. Of course I'm sure any donations will be used and appreciated - I just wonder what would be most helpful.

yes it is true they need cd and yes that is what they use there.
if you wanted to you could send them to a orphanage yourself if you feel ifie about donating them.

I have seen some ads for sending cloth diapers to some wahms that in turn send them in bulk to orphanages.. I also saw an ad for sending used cloth diapers to be sent to missionaries.. glad I saw that- my cousin got a set from them for her first baby (they live in Brazil)..

I think it is a pretty cool thing to do really.
