Need ideas for music cd's for 4.5 year old

we need a change-we listen to our Music Together CD's all the time. Any good suggestions for music that parents can listen to as well as the car is usually where we listen to our cd's. We haven't done Laurie Berkner although everyone seems to like her-the samples I've heard online....well I'm just not sure I can listen to it-seems kinda wordy and fast for a kid to sing along to but I may be very wrong as I've only listened to short samples. Other ideas??

Renee and Jeremy

I love Renee and Jeremy. They have really good voices and they aren't annoying to listen too like a lot of kids music If you go to their website you can even listen to whole cd's to see what you think before you buy

some of our faves are Elizabeth Mitchell, Red Grammer, any of the Putumayo kids cds, Ziggy Marley's Family Time, Doc Watson's Songs for Little Pickers and Jerry Garcia and David Grisman's Not for Kids Only.

Check out this thread. Lots of great suggestions.

I also wanted to say DD and I love R&J. And she likes Secret Agent 23 Squidoo for more energetic music.

Dan Zanes, Hullaballoo, and I think even select, parent-approved pop music is good, like the Beatles.

Ziggy Marley's "Family Time". I love love love this CS, as does DD. It's got tons of different guest artists too like Jack Johnson, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon and Jamie Lee Curtis. Cannot recommend this one enough

Bare Naked Ladies: Snack Time--really great!!! It's one of DH and my favorite CD's, adult or kids!
We also bought soundtracks to Annie, Sound of Music, and Mary Poppins.

Definitely anything putumayo. I enjoy the kids ones, and the girls enjoy the ones that aren't specifically for kids. They just love all the different world rhythms. But my kids aren't really interested in singing along, they just like to dance and go crazy to music.

There's lots of good stuff!

I agree that the Putomayo collections are great, unless your kid can't stand having the lyrics in a foreign language (that really bothers some people)
Calypso
Zydeco -- Beau Soleil, Queen Ida
The Beatles
There's a tie-in album fr the Disney movie Lilo and Stitch -- not the soundtrack, but a mix of Elvis songs and Hawaiian/tropical kitsch. That's been a big hit at our house.
ABBA
Selected old Rolling Stones -- Ruby Tuesday, Jumping Jack Flash, She's a Rainbow (you might want to hold off on songs like Brown Sugar!)
Lots of '50s rock: Chuck Berry, the Supremes, the Coasters, lots of fun music that you can dance to
If you aren't icked out by his sad personal life, it seems like most kids adore Michael Jackson songs

My mom gave us the Andrews Sisters

We got an Andrews Sisters CD for Christmas and it is good for all ages.

I know this may seem odd, but I and my son love "The Playground" by Tony Bennett. He does a duet with Rosie O'Donnell, one with Kermit, and one with Elmo. My son is 5.

Mostly we just skip the music in the car altogether and listen to books on CD. We just finished Little house on the Prairie and started Farmer Boy. My car has never been so quiet!

We love Lunch Money:

My daughter's favorite song is I Love My Library on their Dizzy CD. You can listen on their website.

We also live TMBG, Dan Zanes and Ralph's World.

Johnny Cash has a children's album.

They Might be Giants are fun.

Did anybody say Justin Roberts? He's wonderful.

I like Laurie Berkner, too. She's great for that age. Justin ages a bit better and appeals more to 9 yr olds, too. Laurie is pretty folky with a pop-sensibility. It's all stripped down and acoustic. Justin is more pop-rock. Very hook-laden songs that appeal to kids and parents.

The other kids music superstars have mostly been mentioned, but I will second Dan Zanes, Ralph's World, They Might Be Giants, Elizabeth Mitchell and Lisa Loeb, also love Billy Jonas.

I love all the other suggestions, and want to add one more--The Wiggles. Yes, I'm totally embarrassed, but I have to say, I think they're wonderful. The original band members met while obtaining degrees in Early Ed and wrote the first songs for a class. Their music is so catchy and upbeat, DH and I find ourselves singing the songs all the time.

I bought this CD for ds for Christmas, and he loves it....I do too! Lots of great artists on there, and some really fun songs.

Really?!! I'll be looking for that one.

I'm certainly not the person to ask here. Yesterday dd was so eager to tell her preschool teacher about her new favorite song--Little Ghost by the White Stripes. She loves Phish, Shpongle, Sound Tribe Sector 9, and Bob Marley these days. I haven't even heard of most of the stuff mentioned here where kids are the primary audience. But some sound interesting--I'll look some of those up too.

i am curious why you arent doing 'adult' music. i think by that age i remember dd being really out of children's CD and actively listening to grown up music. she actually herself started dropping children's music when seh was 3. by 5 she was a total beatles fan and others bands too. along with movie music like sound of music...

we also still now have loads of putumayo and others as i am particularly interested in world music. we put on enya on nights she is struggling to sleep.
