Disney Reward Debit Card?

Does anyone have this? We are planning a Disneyland family vacation for May 2011, and thought this might be a good way to save up for Disneyland tickets? Tickets for a 3-day park hopper pass would be over $600 for our family of 4. There is a $25 annual fee for the debit card (per account).

Here is a link for more info: http://disneyrewards.disney.go.com/d...s/earning.html

Do you think this is worth it? Why or why not?

Is there a reason you aren't interested in just getting their Visa card? It doesn't have an annual fee. If you pay it off monthly (it takes planning and self control) that would be a better deal.

We have the Visa Disney card and it has done very well for us. We were shooting for this spring for Disney, but then surprise we found out we were expecting this May. We're shooting again for next year and will start to use the card more to accumulate enough for extras since some of the packages include the park passes.

The Credit Card seems like a much better deal--- no annual fee & twice the rewards.

I *love* the Credit Card bennie of free pictures in California Adventure.

To be honest I don't know that we can/should get another credit card. I think we would be much safer using debit.

I haven't heard of it but its nice for you to share this information.

Does your bank offer debit cards with cash rewards? We have US Bank debit cards that give us one percent cash back on purchases.

Frankly, the Disney debit card doesn't sound like a very good deal. Just to recoup the twenty-five dollar annual fee you would have to spend five thousand dollars per year. Just to break even. After that you'd only make 1 Disney dollar for every 200 dollars spent? Not worth it IMHO. It would only be worth the bother of getting another card if (1) you didn't have any other choices for a debit card with cash rewards and (2) you know for sure you're going to Disney (otherwise the rewards are pretty worthless) and (3) you usually spend quite a bit of money (in order to build up rewards.)

I have the (no fee) Disney credit card with the one Disney dollar earned per 100 dollars spent. The upsides: Chase Disney has excellent customer service. All the service reps I've talked to speak clear English. Plus they make it very easy to put the Disney rewards dollars onto a rewards card. The downside--Disney dollars are only good on Disney stuff. I'd rather get cash rewards that I can use to purchase whatever I want.

Yeah, I think the CC is a way better deal. There are small perks to both but the perks of the debit aren't really that great, and the rewards definitely don't make it "hot".

I have some more info about the Disney Visa program on my blog if you're interested ( http://todisneywego.blogspot.com ...it hasn't been updated regularly lately though). I really think it's worth it if you have an upcoming vacation.

thanks for the feedback! Like I said earlier, I don't think we should get a CC for several reasons- our credit sucks and we aren't very good with them We've chopped up all our CCs for this reason! Maybe we should switch to US Bank, I don't like Chase anyway... and get their cash back to use towards our trip. My sister goes through them and likes them.

We have US Bank and they recently changed their cash back system on the debit card (at least the one we have...th Flex Perks or something like that?). Our CB stopped showing up on our statement and so I called to ask what the deal was and apparently it's only for online shopping now or something like that...whatever it was, it didn't benefit us at all and even though we still regularly use the card we haven't accumulated ANY cash back since they changed the program! It's weird.

From what I saw on the website; you get .5% for each dollar spent via credit/non-pin. And you get a bigger percentage for online purchases (1-25%)

Here is the link I saw: http://www.usbank.com/cgi_w/cfm/chec...tail.cfm?cid=1

Yeah, that's exactly what it used to be...but they changed it and maybe what the deal is is that it's only certain retailers or something. But we definitely don't get CB for everything now.

But not saying it's not worth it. We've been with USBank for quite a few years now and have been very happy with them.

Ah, here is their email they sent me when I inquired as to why we hadn't earned any more points (at the time I wasn't aware the program had changed).

With the new program, you
will no longer receive cash back on all signature-based purchases. You will be able to earn up to 25% cash back
on signature-based purchase made at one of over 150 of our Cash Bonus Partners.

So it's just at certain "cash bonus partners".

eta- apparently UNLESS you have a US Bank package...which I'm pretty sure we have silver.

I hadn't realized there was a change. Thanks for the info!
