potty at night-prevent spills?

IF one uses a BBLP at night how to you manage spills AND hearing if LO is peeing. I put a face cloth after the first time and if I manage to take her again then I can't hear if she goes.

One thing I've done at my parents house (where it mattered a lot more than at home ) was to keep a bucket by the bed. After each pee, I would empty my potty bowl into the big bucket, so that I didn't have to worry about spilling it!

Use a second face cloth? I would let her pee (so I could hear it), then soak up the pee with a prefold diaper or face cloth, then toss the cloth in the laundry (having a second one ready for the next pee).

I don't dislike the bucket idea though.

I second the bucket. I used one with my older dc (my younger dc doesn't put up with night EC at this point) and just peed her directly into it. It was great-- I could practically pee her with my eyes closed. No arranging, or sitting on a cold potty, just woosh out of bed, into classic position, pee, back in bed.
