Free or discounted movie theater tickets?

Anyone have any advice on going to the movies on the cheap? I love to duck out and go to the theater after the kids are in bed, but it gets a little spendy. Thanks!

Do you have any "dollar theaters" around you? We have 2 they show movies that have left the regular theater but haven't hit DVD yet. Super cheap.

Also if you have a Costco membership you can buy tickets there, they aren't much cheaper but Dh loves to go to the movies so a few bucks off the ticket price helps.

Unfortunately, no dollar theaters. No Costco either.

In the past Kellogg's has done one or two movie cash promotion per year. You have to buy so many kellogg's products (usually about 10) and you get certificates that equal about two adult admissions. With coupons I generally end up with 10 boxes of cereal and two movie tickets for about $10. Both the first run movies I went to in 2009 were Kellogg's sponsored

I don't think there is a current promotion. IIRC it tends to be a spring/early summer promotion.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on that! I don't buy tons of cereal, but if it's on sale with coupons I stockpile it and either donate or use it for making snacks.

We have a cheap theater that plays movies that have been out in the other theaters for a month or more that only costs $2.50 any time.

How much do you currently pay for a movie?

The premium tickets at Costco seem to be running (online) for $9/pop.

There are usually coupons in the Entertainment book for discount tickets. They are usually more expensive (for us) than a matinee but cheaper than a night movie.

Do you have any restaurants in the area that have a deal with the theater? One near our theater sells tickets for $6.50 with dinner.

I go on weeknights. My local theatre has a deal that is $9 for a ticket, drink and popcorn.

Do you have AMC theaters near you? The ones here have $5 movie tickets Monday-Thursdays, anytime of the day. Their regular weekend tickets run $9 or $10. You can still use their rewards card when buying the $5 tickets and get a free ticket every 10 times (it may be less often, I'm not sure, but you get a free small soda and popcorn before the free ticket).

Many of the coupon books have programs where you mail off order forms and get a bulk order of tickets for an inexpensive rate.
