Could diaper rash= allergy? - Page 2

FWIW, my DS's rash looked a lot like that when I ate eggs and soy. I hope you get something figured out.

It came back a couple hours after I posted this. Not awful like when I started my ED, but definitely worse than the last week eating only my safe foods. Not totally conclusive that sals (or even food) caused it, but enough that I feel like I'm on the right track with my ED. It's getting better today.

We are also egg and soy free (and a host of other things) atm.

Yes, the cortisone is a steroid cream. It's been getting rid of it but it won't get rid of it completely. It gets it down to a point where the skin looks shiny and wrinkly but there is still a definite outline of the rash.

I decided to take a break from the cortisone cream but his skin looks so dry. So I put a lotion on it that I had on hand and within a few minutes the skin was red and bumpy. I wonder if there is something in a lot of lotions/diaper creams that he is allergic to.

Cutting dairy is so hard! I am not a big dairy person but I'll end up accidentally eating something that has dairy in it and have to start counting the 2 weeks all over again. So frustrating!

With that history, by far and away the thing I'd suspect most is gluten. I *hope* you're OK with gluten now, but another possibility is that during the months you didn't eat it, your gut healed. When you reintroduced it, you wouldn't necessarily get the old reactions, and/or it might take a while for them to manifest again (while the gluten irritates your gut again). We reintroduced gluten for DS 3 months ago, and I'm still very watchful for that happening for him.

The concern here would be that either a) your babe is gluten intolerant as well, so he's reacting when you eat gluten, or b) he's reacting to *your* gluten reaction (which might not be obvious to you yet in terms of impacting how you feel).

I'd try a couple of weeks off gluten (I know, it's a hard one to take out!), and see how that does for your babe - and also watch yourself for any subtle improvements. Gluten can be really insidious in its effects...
I do wonder if gluten is still a problem for me but it's so hard to go back. Food/diet is such a struggle for me without having my diet restricted and having the gluten out was so hard, even on an emotional level. It is so hard to go back to that diet...

I'm trying dairy right now and peanuts because I realized that I eat a TON of peanut butter and actually had a peanut allergy as a small child. If that doesn't improve anything, I'll move on to gluten.

He keeps reacting to things I put on his skin. Yesterday I put on a little bit of coconut oil and it got all red and bumpy. I used to put coconut oil on his head regularly for his cradle cap and he didn't seem to have an issue with it.

The only thing so far I've found I can put on him is glaxal base cream. Everything else, so far, he seems to react to.

What is a good laundry detergent for kids with sensitive skin? I've been using Nellie's. He seemed fine with it but yesterday I tried him in a cloth diaper and his rash got all red and bumpy when I missed a pee. The detergent is derived from coconut oil so I wonder if that's why... Although the rest of skin seems perfectly fine (except for the small patch of eczema on his chest) and I use Nellie's on all his cloths.

I've read that rockin' green is great for kids with sensitive skin. It's next on my list of cd detergents to try. I'd get the "light rock" unscented.
I'd already have it, but I have so much detergent that I've tried, and the one that I'm using now seems ok. I'm using NatureClean atm.

It seems like every lotion I try on ds's rash or cheeks makes his skin bumpy. I tried Eucerin on his cheeks because it's sal free, but it made them bumpy. Canola oil is the only thing I've tried that doesn't seem to eventually make them bumpy, but it's not very moisturizing.
I'm now trying cocoa butter for the 2nd time. The first time I tried it, I also tried shea butter, so I'm not sure which one he reacted to.

Where do you get rockin green from (I'm in BC, too- btw)?

Are kids rashes sound so similar! Does he have any other symptoms of food sensitivities? Ds has none that I can tell. He isn't gassy, sleeps well, happy, ect.

This site sells it http://www.diaperenvi.ca/ She's in BC, and quite nice

Ds's sleep went downhill right around the time his diaper rash popped up. It's getting better again though he still doesn't sleep enough, so it seems that it's related to food sensitivities. Oh, and he also had mucousy poop (which I didn't realize could be sensitivity related), which has gotten better on the ED.
And cradle cap and eczema on his cheeks, and one teeny eczema spot on his lower back above his diaper area (that only pops up when his rash gets really bad).

Ds is a quite happy kid, hardly ever cries (unless we take someting from him lol). So there was no fussiness or anything.

I'm pretty convinced that ds's is food related, after my recent sweet potato trial. I've eaten very low sals (and no additives, and haven't added soy, gluten, corn, etc back yet) since, and it's looking good. He still gets a light rash through the day, but I'm blaming friction for now.
