short mama wearing wrap for chores

I am 5' and around 125 lbs. and have a wrap and a sling, neither of which seem conducive to wearing DD while I am doing chores (making the bed, dishes). She's too high in the wrap and the sling is getting too small for anything but a hip hold. I am not super well versed in carriers but I do love them. We always wear one when we are out and about and they are really comfortable then but I feel like I can't do much in the house when I am wearing her. I am going to make a mei tai but haven't yet, maybe that will help. Any one else in the same boat or am I wearing the wrong carrier for my body type?

I think wraps are a great choice for just about anybody willing to learn to use them, but people have different preferences. I actually like having a few different kinds of carriers and use(d) them for different things. I'm just a bit taller 5'3" (on a good day!), and my go to carrier is a wrap.

Are you using a woven or a stretchy wrap?
Have you tried back carries? There are lots of clips on youtube for different carries with wraps if you don't know how to do a back carry.
A ruck is a really quick wrap and BWCC is a very secure wrap great for housework and hiking and long carrying situations.

My good friend is 4'11" and once her babe got past newborn stage, she switched to back carrying. A mei tai and wrap will probably be keeping your baby at about the same level -- both should hold your babe where you'd hold in arms.

PS Adding this: for ds.

I'm relatively short waisted and after about 8 months I pretty much only back carry ds, he's just too in my way in the front unless we're just on a walk. If I need to wear him so that I can clean or do something else then it has to be on my back. good luck!

I tend to agree with the other posters -- see if you can try a back carry (if your wrap is a woven and not a stretchy wrap, ie Moby) or get the MT going with a back carry.

I'd suggest a BabyHawk or similar.

I'm a bit taller than you but I still found that a front carry and doing chores didn;t work for me for long. There was just too much baby in the way.

Learning a back carry was a must for me if I wanted to get anything done with DS.

I stick my DS in the Baby Hawk for sweeping and other chores. I find it the easiest, sometimes he is on a hip carry in the Ring sling while I do dishes or make lunches. I love a variety of carries so I don't get bored

I agree that a back carry is what you need. So much easier to do everything that way, and it's more comfy on walks too. Many carriers should work for that.
