Used cat tree?

How likely is it that my adult female cat (2.5 yo) will accept and use a second-hand cat tree? We really need to buy her one, but the new ones are not only expensive, they off-gas from the carpet and wood, which makes us sick.

Any thoughts?

Sprinkle some catnip on a used one and she will likely be fine.
