I have some seeds from Monsanto-unsafe companies...

should I toss them? I'm trying to be frugal this year and have already spent more than I'd like buying plants I didn't seed in time and building a couple new boxes. I use Mel's Mix so that's another area when I spend.

Rebuying 12 seed packets from a safe seed company would run about $30 after shipping since I can't find any locally.

I guess I'm wondering, what are the ramifications of just using these this year? I'd bet that the Burpee plants I bought may have been grown from Monsanto seeds as well....

I was given a bunch of old seeds at one of my favorite local nurseries last year, all from Botanical Interests which is not Monsanto-safe as far as I know. I'm planting many of them. My main focus is to not financially support monsanto in any form (if possible). If you've already purchased them then that part is done. If I were you, I'd use them. The Burpee seeds you bought aren't safe, and the soil isn't organic but it's just a small amount. I've put a few things in here and there that are not organic but hard to come by -- I'm not trying to be certified so I don't worry about a bit here and a bit there.

I'd use them this year and move on.

Spend some time between this growing season and next to research and figure out a more frugal and eco-conscious method for the next season. There are so many factors to consider and there isn't really ONE perfect way to do it....

I would still plant with these seeds. For next year I would save as many seeds from the ones you plant this year that ore open-pollinated.

Use 'em.
You'll still be growing them somewhat responsibly, right?
Plus then when you finally do finish out the seed packets, you have way groovier places to order/trade from. Or you'll get sucked into doing your own seed-saving.
