We began telling people right away.
One reason was because my cousins and mother will be present for the birth and I'm excited about it so I was happy to tell them the news of our plans.
Another reason is that our family is very mainstream and in our area there aren't many people having home births and my family hasn't known anyone who's had one.
So we knew this would be a big idea for them to get used to and we wanted to give them time to warm up to it, ask questions, get used to the idea..etc.
So far they're accepting but skeptical. I think it weirds them out, honestly. They're trying very hard to understand though.
We considered keeping it hush hush for awhile but it didn't feel right for us. Our family loves pregnancy and new babies so there would be no way to avoid telling without flat out lying to them and it just felt wrong.
