Baby Monitors

How many think the angelcare movement monitors are necessary for new born infants compared with other monitors. ????

I am moving this to Life with a babe.

I don't have the angelcare, but I do have the baby sense V, which the reviews say has fewer false alarms. I didn't have it with my first 5 years ago, but I do sleep much better knowing it's on. We have only had 2 false alarms where she was off of the sensor and shallow breathing. I had a few losses and a scary birth with this LO, and so I think I worry more. She also used to stop breathing when she was tiny... within the range of normal infant breathing, but it made me worry. I started sleeping much better once we ordered the monitor and stopped cosleeping. I don't know if I would have gotten it if my parents didn't offer to pay for it as our baby gift, though.

I don't think it's "necessary". I cosleep, but I have a video monitor for when I'm babe is sleeping without me. You should get it if it will give you peace of mind and cost isn't an issue.

It's nice to have, but I wouldn't say it's necessary.

I think in general it gives parents a false sense of security. I often read moms saying that they let their baby sleep on their tummy, but it's ok because they have the Angelcare monitor. A motion sensor monitor will NOT prevent SIDS. A baby would not be able to be revived in a true SIDS case.

we just had the basic monitor and I only used it for a few months. He goes to sleep a few hours before us so I liked to be able to hear if he woke up. Otherwise we just cosleep.
I have thought that a video monitor would be nice, so I could check on him without opening the bedroom door. AKA the creakiest door in the world.

This is a very good point that many moms miss. I see so many moms saying they allow tummy sleeping b/c of it, and that's just not a good idea. I still like it because if something happens, I'll be sure to know about it, and that's pretty much all I can control.
