chiropractic and reflux/weight gain in infant

My daughter is 3 mo. At her 2 mo. appointment, we realized she isn't gaining weight very well. Although she was born at 8;11, she has dropped to the 25th %ile and just recently hit 11 pounds. Shortly after that appointment, she was diagnosed with reflux and we put her on Zantac (which worked well for ds as an infant). That relieved some of her fussiness, but she still didn't eat very much or for very long during a feeding.

I'd heard advice to get chiropractic. I recently sought an evaluation and she had 2 adjustments this week. It may be just coincidence, but she has gained 1-1/2 ounces per day during the last 2 days, and an ounce a couple days before that. The bad news is that our insurance doesn't provide super coverage for chiropractic and the 6 month plan he has for us will cost a lot. I'm wondering if anyone has btdt experience to say whether or not it would be worth the cost.

A true GERD baby will not usually do well on zantac long if it all--they will need a PPI to control pain and babies who aren't growing well due to reflux are true refluxers who need relief obviously..my son was in that boat too. Marci kids website has wonderful information about why Zantac (and other acid reducers) don't do well generally as well as information about proper dosing of PPI's). I highly recommend you look at it so you've got the information to ask that she be treated properly if you end up needing treatment. I wish we had adequately treated my son at your daughter's age. He fell off the growth scale altogether over months 4 to 6 (slipping prior like your daughter) and was never on again until we finally dosed him correctly and with the correct meds at 18 months.

As far a chiro care we did do that. I saw no change for my son in terms of reflux. However, that does not mean it won't help another baby or won't be a key for your daughter. I really hope it is! I think you'll know over the next month. You don't have to commit to six months, right? If the chiropractor is telling you it will take that long for results I would definitely look elsewhere. It doesn't work that way.

I don't have experience with specifically what you're asking, but I agree that if the chiropractic is working, you should see results sooner, and you should probably base how frequently you need to go on how well your baby seems to be doing with it. Different issue, but my daughter's ear infections stopped with cranial-sacral as an infant, it was only about a half dozen visits, and even after that, no more EIs (that's been almost 6 years now). You may want to consider whether food intolerances could be involved as well.

Have you checked around to see what the variation in prices is between different chiropractors? And also people who do cranial-sacral therapy, similar idea, physical manipulation to relieve stress.
