My MW was in a bad car wreck

I thought it was weird that I had left my MW a message to fill her in on what the cardiologist said about Addison and she didn't call me back within a day or two. But last night, while I was putting the girls to bed, she called and DH talked to her.

Apparently she went to Argentina for a week and while she was there she was in a bus/van wreck. Five of the people died (who she knew but not well--I think she met them on the trip.) She broke her leg and her neck! She told DH that she didn't have anyone due for the next two weeks and she's hoping that by then she'll be well enough to attend and her attendant can do a lot of the work.

Anyway--I just found it really scary! And I'm glad she's not worse off than she is. I told DH I would be heartbroken if she would've died in the accident.

We're tight on money since DH is planning to quit his job in May, but I want to do something for her. I don't necessarily want to cook something for her and I know that she already has a housekeeper. I'm going to send a card, but I'm trying to think of some kind of giftcard or something that might be handy right now. Any ideas?

If you've the time with a newborn - or if your DH can do it - offer to go grocery shopping for her a few times or run errands, pick up a prescription, whatever - I KNOW that would help tremendously.

If you don't feel like that would be appropriate or if you're not that close, then I would think a giftcard would be nice - for takeout from a place you know she likes or to Target - or heck, just some get-well flowers and a nice card would be very thoughtful as well.

That is super scary! I live abroad in a land with few seatbelts and a car wreck is one of my biggest fears.

Yeah, if we were closer I would do that, but--although I love my MW to death and trust my life and the life of my kids with her--we just don't have that close of a relationship.

What about one of those Edible Arrangements fruit baskets? I had one waiting for me at my return from the hospital and it was so lovely to have fresh fruit when I wanted to sleep all day.
