Stupid Newbie Question - Pre-preg clothes

Okay, so I'm exactly two weeks postpartum today. I gained 35 pounds with this, my first pregnancy. I've got 10 to go. I'm heading out of the house for a social event (gasp! hooray!) today and I thought I'd try on some "real" clothes instead of my lounge wear. I figured if I'm "only" 10 pounds over I might be able to get some of my old clothes back on, but NO, not even past my hips. Will my hips recover some of their spread (despite the extra 10 pounds to go) or do I have a good excuse to buy a new wardrobe? I feel like no matter how much weight I lose my physical structure in the hip area will not recover...

I would wait a little while before buying new clothes. I remember all of my shirts suddenly being belly shirts, so if that's the case then go ahead. But I would wait a couple of months before getting an all new wardrobe.

Yeah, I figured the same thing....didn't work for me, either! who would have thought 10 pounds would make such a difference?
You will shrink back down, I did with ds, took a couple of months though.
Hang in there!

It took me a few months before I was back into my regular clothes. What I did was but a few transition pieces at a thrift store to fit/flatter my new figure. I my yoga pants right now.

I don't remember the timing with my first, though I did lose more right off the bat with him.

Right now, I'm just under my heaviest non-pregnancy weight, but my fat pants don't fit my hips and jelly middle. Still wearing my maternity yoga pants and will probably buy two pairs in a larger, regular size as transition pieces. Luckily shirts still work for me (always been large-chested, so shirts seem to be able to handle the up and down from nursing).

Ugh. I swore that I wouldn't even try to put on pre-pregnancy clothes for the first couple months postpartum...but when I came home from the hospital down 25 pounds I got ahead of myself and tried a couple things. No dice. My thighs and hips have expanded. And at 4 weeks out my belly is still soft and flabby. I can't wait to really start exercising and firm up. I hope losing 15 pounds will put me back into my own clothes...I can't afford to be out buying all new pants.

In the meantime I have a pair of pre-pregnancy 'fat' jeans that I can wear with a loose shirt to hide the bulge. Also my low waist maternity pants can pass for normal pants. I've been wearing my full panel maternity folded over or with a belly band so they don't fall off.

I already warned my little sister that I am going to raid her closet for pants because she has a variety of sizes and I am sure I could find something that would work for me for a while. She just lost weight so I am sure she won't mind if I take her bigger pants for a little while.

My hips were never *quite* the same after DD1 -- eventually, at 11mo pp I got back into my smallest pp jeans -- but the fit is different. It took months, probably about 4mo pp, to get back into jeans at all - I couldn't even get my small jeans past my knees.

The weight will come off. I've always been slightly underweight and my body really held on to most of it until I finished BF'ing DD1, it's normal. I'd probably buy an inexpensive pair of jeans/pants for now -- if you get preg again, you'll use them again anyway. I know Old Navy has jeans for $19 this week.

Tops - sure, you'll get back into most of them probably, unless they were super tight and you now can't fit your boobs in!

Bottoms...yah...good luck with that, mama. Personally I had no joy with anything fitted at ALL after Josie. My hips were totally different. I was a size 6 before I got pregnant with her - so pretty slim, not like I could slim into anything without getting unhealthily thin - I am 5ft 7. Now, after her, my hips had gone..well, *splat* really: my lower body is totally different, and now I am a size 8! Not that I mind - I like my new curves and it's nice to have hips! But no, I had to buy a totally new pant wardrobe after Josie. now after Bella I can get into my pre-pregnancy pants just fine.

Amusingly, I do sometimes find pairs of size 4-6 pants from before Josie, and try to put them on for fun: OMG I can barely fit one thigh in! Like I said though, I like having a curvier figure XXX

I am back into my pants from before Marissa, but no way after my first for quite awhile! I think this time was because I am already spread out from the first two!

Has anyone else had their feet grow after pregnancy? Not so much with this one, but with my first, I went from size 6.5/7 shoe to 7.5/8!
