They seem so thin!

I am sewing up some diapers from Bamboo/Cotton French Terry that is rated at 16oz.
They are supposed to be instead of infant prefolds for the newborn stage, so I sized them at about 9x12" and made them two layers thick.
But they look so thin and small compared to the infant prefolds. Now, I must admit that I'm trying to make them less bulky because the infant prefolds were just too thick and bulky on a newborn, but now I'm worried that they won't be substantial enough to be useful.
I know that they are flexible enough to be folded different ways to add absorbancy in the front, and I'm sure I'm just not remembering how tiny newborns are, but I'd appreciate any reassurances!
And, if you can think of a better way to make these, please feel free to share!

hi!

i've done something like that as a soaker... never thought about using as a PF. Can you add one more layer? And how do you use your PFs, folded in thirds and just lay in the dipe, or folded and pinned/snappied? I think you'd be fine. I can experiment with my NB as report back

Thanks, FG! Came to the same conclusion as you - to add another layer, as I have more squares cut but not yet sewn. My regular cotton prefolds I trifold and fold down the extra in the front (my kids quickly need all those extra layers). These, it will depend on how they fit the baby, and how sleep-deprived I am, whether I just trifold, or if I actually pin/snappi for extra coverage.
