Okay, so if your cloth pad fell in to a toilet..

A public toilet- would you wash it in hot water or just launder as usual. Or so anything special? I don't have any TTO.

My ick factor is pretty low, but I am about to toss some Mama Cloth in the machine and I was thinking that the whole falling in to the toilet thing to be kind of, um, gross.

What do you think?

i would launder as normal.

You know when I posted this thread, my first thought was "MadiMamacita better stay out of my thread, she isn't scared of any germs!"

But yes, you are probably right. Urine is sterile and it was flushed of course, so it isn't like anything was sitting in there.

As long as the bowl was clean and it was flushed then it's just water. Launder as normal, but if you're still worried, maybe run a hot cycle.

I'm not a huge fan of the stuff, but chlorine bleach is known to pretty much kill anything. Maybe you could soak it in a bleach solution and then launder it.

I went with a cold water rinse and a regular cycle with hot water

Well I'm a total germaphobe and would have freaked out and tossed it! It should be ok though with the hot water wash.

Michelle, those are organic cotton! No way was I tossing it, it was a LOT of money

Do you have any GSE? I know you said you don't have any TTO. I'd wash again with several (i.e. like 25!) drops of GSE in the wash. And I'd make it a sanitary cycle, not just a hot cycle.

My first thoughts were far more logistical and practical.... What would I do with the soaking wet mama pad? If I didn't have anything to put the soaking wet pad in while I was still in the restroom stall, I may have been tempted to toss it in the trash. It would be due to not wanting my tiny purse soaking wet, though, not because of the "ick" factor! Then, I was thinking, well I could dunk it a few more times (if the toilet was clean, like you wrote) to get rid of any excess menstrual fluid and squeeze it out, then put it in whatever item I would carry along if I did mama cloth. Then, it would be a little cleaner than usual, right? I'd wash my hands in HOT water with soap for a minute or more, but otherwise, I'd be fine. I wouldn't do anything different with the mama pad, I don't think....I don't use mama pads, though, so I cannot say for sure what I would do. My germ-o-phobe meter is pretty low, though, but some isolated things do spike it!

The thing that sticks out for me most, though, is I rarely see CLEAN public toilets. I mean, the facility is clean enough for a toilet seat cover use, but not clean enough on the inside of the bowl for me to clean willingly. I clean our home toilets with plain vinegar and don't think twice. They never get particularly dirty.

This was at work. The toilet is cleaned every night, so the bowl itself is sparkling clean.

I carry zip lock bags to store my Mama Cloth in, so I was covered. I come home at night and empty my three bags, then reuse them the next day. However, I will admit that I tossed the baggie that the soaking wet pad was in

wash it on hot with tto and lavender.

Honey I commend you for just getting it out of the toilet. I can't even get things out of my own toilet when I throw cloth wipes or diapers in it , that's when I yell for hubby.

Thanks for indulging my logistical questions/ponderings!

I'd wash it "normally," but my "normal" is to throw them in with DS's diapers, so they get double washed on hot with Oxyclean and a vinegar rinse. Probably over-the-top, but since the diapers are getting uber-washed anyway...

But in your case, I'd just wash it. Maybe in hot, just to be safe, but... yeah. Just a wash should be fine.

Yea, I probably would have had to just leave it in the toilet.

But since you bravely got it out, I would wash it normally.
