I just need to vent for a second...

My c-section was in 2005 for a breech, premature infant (PPROM @ 20 weeks and slight abruption at 30 weeks, which is why we went forward with the section). I had ds2 last March. Beautiful HBAC. 9 pound baby.

So now I'm spoiled and I don't want to go to the hospital. I also don't want to use the MW I used with ds2 for this pregnancy (the only reason I used her is b/c she was, literally, the only MW w/i 3 hours that would see me and the OB on my insurance is an @ss).

I can't find another MW that will see me (or even call me back, for that matter) even though the local HB MW said she'd take me when I had a "proven pelvis." The OB is still a jerk and they won't let me see the other doc in the practice w/o filling out a form stating WHY I don't want to see @ss OB anymore. And, oh yeah, I don't want to birth in a hospital!

I can drive an hour away to see a CNM who was recently given privileges to deliver in the hospital there, but it is still a hospital and an hour away at that. So here I sit with no care provider.

I am just seriously annoyed. Dh doesn't want me to "roll over" and deliver at the hospital, but I'm so sick of fighting for this. I shouldn't have to!

Just a rant.

I'm not sure why you don't want to use the MW you did for your last birth, but that sounds like a bummer. What about a traveling midwife? There are some that will travel to you, and when I compared cost for my HB, it was about the same.

Your other option could be just to keep calling until you talk to a live person. I'm not sure what midwifery laws are in Arkansas. Is there something the MW might be afraid of in attending your birth?

Good luck!

Oh, I guess I forgot to mention that. lol MWs are prohibited by AR law from attending HBACs. My last MW was unlicensed, but there are a myraid of reasons I don't want to use her again (I have 2 posts in the homebirth forum detailing why, if you're curious ).

(((hugs))) Frustrating!!!! Birth should not be this complicated.

Is UC a possibility?

Have you asked about MWs in the Finding Your Tribe area? Someone there might have a lead on a sympathetic MW.

Just skimmed through your thread in HB...

Is the tearing the only reason? If so, is it something that you hold against her (as in an extra-stressor that might inhibit your labor)? If so, would an OB/hospital stress you out more or less?

*JMO* but given the options you have laid out, I, personally, would go with the same MW. Yes, if you have another tear you might end up at the hospital anyway but at least it would be post birth. I would rather have the MW prenates and wonderful HB w/ a quick stitch-up at the hospital if the other option were OB prenates w/ a hospital birth.

The tear is one of the reasons, but this post details it more...

An hour isn't bad to drive. I drove 2 hours to my hospital and had a great midwife attended hospital VBAC.

I'm sorry there isn't an ideal situation, but just play through the scenarios, fully explore the possibilities and see what feels best. I would probably meet with the CNM an hour away or do the paperwork and try to see another OB in the practice. Then you can compare the disadvantages of traveling with the disadvantages of your HB midwife and make a choice.
