I missed it by a few days, but four months of successful vegetarianism, which is a whole 1/3rd of a year!
It might not seem like much, since I know many of you here have been veg for decades, but I'm so proud of myself, and so happy with my decision. I'm at a place where I can say that I will never eat meat again, and it feels great
Given my circumstances, it's hard to be meat-free. I was a HUGE meat eater. I ate meat every single day. My freshman year of college, I briefly considered it, but I was dating someone who ate meat 3-4 times a day and thought it was crazy to be veg
Anyhow, I live at home and my family is very much a meat-eating one. Thankfully, their eating habits have changed for the better in the last several months. We have probably 3 veg meals a week, sometimes 4, which is GREAT. My mom and I cook together a lot. My mom, dad and sister are making a point to swap out meat for seafood, which is better in terms of animal cruelty. It gets frustrating to not have a vegetarian kitchen, but it balances out by having parents who respect my choice, and would hold me accountable. If I told my mom I wanted to eat a hamburger they'd cooked, she wouldn't let me
However, meat cravings are long-gone, the thought of a burger makes me want to :Puke. I move out August 2011, and I look forward immensely to my all-veg kitchen
Oh, and just so that I can kill two birds with one stone, I need some tips on how to boost my immune system. I know it's unrelated to vegetarianism, since I eat healthier now than I ever have, but it's been a brutal winter. I got really sick with strep in November, and it took close to a month to feel normal again. I've had two colds since then, and I'm battling another one now. I drink OJ every day, but that's not cutting it. I'm hesitant to start back on Emergen-C because I don't particularly love the taste, and the green child in me cries at the thought of all those little individual packets going into landfills.
