not laughing/occasional smiles

Ruby is 12 weeks on Tuesday and while she does give smiles occasionally throughout the day it is mostly only in the morning when she first wakes up.
She is not laughing at all yet.

A friend of mine has a son who is two weeks younger and seems to be smiling a ton!

Is it normal for her not to be smiling very often yet?

Annika smiles fairly often but she doesn't laugh at all yet. I think that it is pretty within the normal range as long as she does smile some. Maybe she's just a more serious baby!

Mine is almost 10 weeks and also smiles just occasionally and has never laughed.

I would say it is totally normal. They all do things on their own schedule! As long as she can smile and does on occasion I'd say you're good!

Yeah, my dd was a seriuos baby. She really only grinned until about 8 months. Otherwise there was a mildly amused look we called smiling.

I would say as long as there are smiles you're good. How's eye contact?

A is 3 months -- he grins (especially when he's just waking up) and smiles occasionally. He doesn't laugh much, & when he does, it's more like he's saying "Aaaaaah, aaaaah, aaaaaah" while smiling. Even my dad, who is a big baby lover and would walk on his hands dressed up like Barney while singing "5 Little Monkeys" and making balloon animals if he thought it would make a baby laugh doesn't get much more than a faster "Aaaah, aaaah, aaaaah" out of A.
