Bronchitis and babies

So my poor DS1, almost 4, has bronchitis. He's on antibiotics, is seeing a physical therapist to get the mucus up (this is standard treatment in France) and luckily we caught it early and his chest x-ray is clear.

The bad news is that we have a 3 week old DS2. Who seems to be congested. I myself feel a cold coming on, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if DS2 has caught the same bug.

My question is how do you recognize a serious illness like bronchitis (or more likely bronchiolitis) in a tiny baby? I'm not too stressed about the congestion-- just using saline drops to clear his nose-- but what should I look out for if things get more serious?

Ugh. This is probably a stupid question, but I'm exhausted, stressed, worried about all of us and not thinking super clearly. Any advice is appreciated.

Labored breathing, it can be faster or just that they are working harder. Wheezing is common in young babies, once you hear it you know it is different. If you notice any of those symptoms or if he has a high temp then I would bring him. Here is hoping that he stays healthy.

Thanks, mama. He sounds better today than he did last night (less congested) and he's been nursing a LOT today, so I'm hoping the breastmilk will help him stay healthy.

Ugh, so stressful to have a super sick kiddo and a tiny baby!!!!
