We have four biological children ages 11, 8, 3, and 1 1/2. We plan on fostering (with the intent to adopt) when the youngest is 3. I know about keeping birth order so we would only take children younger than my youngest (though I realize it is the "older" children who most need homes). We actually want to adopt a sibling set and special needs (for the most part) are fine. We are also considering adopting a child specifically with special needs (still discussing what we are comfortable with but I've been looking into fost adopt as mentioned before and also looking at adopting a child with dwarfism). Anyway, specifically my question is, how to prepare my children in my home now.
My oldest is completely on board. The rest I'm not sure know what I mean. Right now we are on an expat assignment in Wales and after that we aren't exactly sure where we will be living in the US.
But what I am really interested in are books, websites, podcasts, blogs about families with bio kids who foster and or adopt to grow their family. We already are avid listeners of the Foster Parenting Podcast.
Thanks so much for answering my rather convoluted email. We homeschool and I'm writing this in the middle of helping one child sound out words for a letter to his uncle and the other figure out what a contraction is.
