Inexpensive Safer Mattress Topper options

So, we all had the stomach flu last weekend and dd threw up all over my very old foam egg crate mattress pad. I had been wanting to throw it away anyways but it was so old I figured it didn't matter as far as off gassing goes (over 10 years old). We have a standard Queen mattress as well (over 10 yeard old and still in good condition).

Sooo, what are some options for inexpensive (under $200 for whole set up) to make my bed comfy again? I already have a set of organic cotton sheets as well as other nice sheets sets.

I saw at Walmart () they had some sort of ECO egg crate topper. anyone know what this is? I need to go back in there and check it out, I can't find it online.

My dd's bed has organic sheets over a wool topper over a cotton waterproof pad (that I let offfgas outside) over a standard twin mattress (that I let offfgas outside for several days before I gave it to her 2 years ago) and that's pretty comfy. She does not sleep with us most nights but sometimes she does.

Ideally I would get a wool topper for my bed but all I can find is $300+ and that's just not in the budget.

Any help? I did look in the archives but came up empty. Thanks!!

ETA: I don't want Feather/down as they tend to make my nose itchy!

ETA: So it just occurred to me, if my mattress is 10 years old, then maybe I need a new mattress too,

I have a wool topper and love it. I got it here.

But the prices have gone up. I got a king wool topper 4 or 5 years ago for $300.
It was a big splurge at the time, but I am so glad I did it. The kids have peed and puked on it. I clean it with soap and water, Bac-Out, and baking soda. I put it outside a few times in the summer to sun it and the wool just puffs up and expands and it feels brand new again.

Here is a link that lists tons of natural bedding sites.

Sorry I'm not more helpful, with the budget in mind. I did have a link saved from a company in Greenland maybe? They had wool toppers for $150. They were the type that is quilted on one side and fuzzy wool on the other. But the link is expired.

I don't know how you feel about Walmart, but I just found this.

why would you need to replace your mattress? Ours is 10yrs old and in great shape, no sagging or anything

Ok, thanks for the ideas!

First, mommy2maya, I had read on the internet that you need to replace your mattress every 6-7 years but don't actually think we'll be replacing ours just yet. It seems ok, maybe we'll flip it.

So what I think we are going to do is get a 3" wool mattress topper from Organic Grace and possibly a wool puddle pad to go over that to protect it. I think organic grace is a MDC mama and offers a discount. I talked dh into finally splurging on our bed so I think we can do it. We can upgrade the mattress itself later when I think it really needs it.

Anyone know about Organic Grace? I've read some good things about them here on MDC>

I try to buy all of this sort of stuff from organic grace (as a matter of fact, I just bought a crib mattress for my sister today!!).

Talia is great (MDC name 'taliarose'). Always very prompt to respond to questions and things ship out very quickly.
