Constipation or just growing up?

My 10 month old recently got REALLY into solids (he didn't even care until 9 months) So, we try to feed him when we eat and I offer snacks frequently. He still nurses quite a bit. We try to give him a variety of foods...but he really likes Ritz Crackers (and those are easy to transport), banana, and sardines (I'm serious). I'll usually give him bites of whatever I'm eating (as long as it's mushable and not spicy or anything)

His poop is starting to become a lot more solid. I guess more like adult poop? He doesn't seem in distress when he poops or anything so I don't think he's in pain.

Normal right?

My dd is 9 months and since starting solids her poop has varied a lot. Sometimes being semi or completely solid. I think it depends on how much and what she eats. Sometimes it still is the classic breasfeeded baby poop and I think it wont be completely like adult poop until she has a more consistent solid diet, but I guess it's normal. It sure is stinky lol

Yeah, the smell is very different since beginning solids. I miss EBF baby poop!

As long as the poop isn't hard or dry, it's just fine. It's normal for the poop to start looking more and more like adult poo as baby starts eating more solid food. It's also normal for it to stay soft and unformed. Each kid is slightly different. My DS and DD1 both started having "solid" poos at that age. DD2 on the other hand ate just about the same balance of solids and breastmilk at that age, and yet kept on having soft unformed stools. She pooed mush all the way up until she weaned. It just went from mild yellow mush to really skanky brown mush. Way TMI, I know, but if you can't talk about this stuff with other mothers, how do we ever learn about what's normal?

You may, if you're not already, want to introduce a cup and let him try a few swallows of water with his solids. Some babies seem to need some water, once they're eating more, to keep things "moving." And concentrate on good whole foods when you're feeding solids, like fruits and veggies and meat and cheese and yogurt and eggs, and stuff like that, and limit sugar and refined carbohydrates.

And I'll chime in and say my kids LOVE LOVE LOVE little oily fish like sardines, anchovies, and herring. They're full of good healthy fats, too.

There's no reason not to let a baby eat spicy stuff, either, if baby likes it. My kids all ate what I eat, which includes lots of garlic and heavily spiced stuff. That's why DD2's first word was "pepper." (Meaning cayenne.)

I know that Ritz probably aren't the best for him health wise...but the kid LOVES them lol I try to make up with it by feeding him healthy stuff too. He doesn't use his sippy cup (he just bangs it around) When we're at a restaurant I give him "sips" with a straw (put my finger over the end to suck up some water and then drip it in his mouth) Otherwise I let him get a sip of BM from time to time. I've been holding off on spices but I don't have a good reason for doing so!
