If it becomes law, it will truly be groundbreaking. Common sense has to start somewhere, right? Hopefully we'll see a snowball effect with other states in the near future.

I'm not holding my breath that it will actually happen, but if it does, Mass will be my 2nd favorite state.

I'm pretty sure this is posted in Activism but I think it would be great for any MA resident to also post it in Finding Your Tribe. I believe it is an open meeting and residents are allowed to comment.

I wouldn't get too excited

It's only even being voted on because MA law requires that if a constituent goes to the trouble of writing up a bill, his or her state representative is obligated to present it to the state legislature. Note that a similar bill was presented in a previous legislative session.

Most legislators don't give a lot of thought to these proposals - many of them are utterly without merit - and it's extremely unlikely that this one will pass.

True, it is unlikely it will pass but it will bring the issue to the public. So many people don't know that intact is an option or that circ. carries risk. Anything that helps parents research and know their options is a good thing, IMO.

This belongs in activism, so don't be alarmed if it gets moved....

It usually takes years for anything to go into law around here... It took 7? years to get the breastfeeding law passed, even with a lot of support. So that this one was was heard last year is a good thing.
I don't think the MGM bill will go very far because it is a bill that does not offer any religious exceptions. Regardless of opinions of that, I just personally think a bill like this is going to be much much much harder to get through.

I'd love to be surprised.... but just saying...

As long as people are using this thread as a heads up or to discuss the actual bill it is fine here. If people want to discuss how to become involved in the decision, it would need to be in activism.

"The Massachusetts MGM Bill is now in the hands of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary. The Committee will hold a public hearing of the bill on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at 1:00 pm in Room A-1 of the Massachusetts State House."

Yaaayyyy!!! It hasn't been shot down yet!

I don't see anything wrong with sticking to just the parts of the bill that you support.

Hi! Just a friendly reminder that TCAC doesn't host religious discussion of circumcision:

Quote:
The discussion of or reference to religion is outside of the scope of this forum. Any posts which bring any aspect of religion into the discussion are not appropriate and will be removed. Respectful discussion of a religious nature regarding circumcision, alternatives, etc. may be hosted in the Spirituality forum. The Spirituality forum is a debate-free zone. Members maintain a list of helpful websites in a Web Resources thread for further information about religious issues.
Thanks for understanding.

I have closed this thread, because religious reference and discusion continued after To-Fu posted a reminder on the thread regarding this part of the forum guidelines. Also, I addressed the thread to remind people to post in activism if that wanted to discuss taking action about this bill. This type of posting continued.
