hey mamas this may get long, But my almost 3yr old (may 1st) stayed for a few hours at his grandparents last nite with his 3mo. old sis while my husband an eye got a much needed, dinner without kids. So when we got back to my inlaws house he was high strung, acting silly, doing things for attention etc. We had a minor melt down when it was time to leave, nothing major. we finally got him to bed around 9:30 not much struggle than normal. Now when we got up this morning, it has been told chaos, he is melting down over everything, behaving in ways i have never seen. He screaming, throwing himself on the floor, throwing things if the littlest thing goes wrong. He got mad after his bath because I asked him if he wanted to pull the drain on the tub, and he just walked away, did not want to, he came back and started freaking out because he wanted to do it, he started shoving his fingers up his nose as far as they could go, and started diggin it was like he was beinging self abusive. I can't get him to grounded, he had never been like this before, He may be somewhat over tired, but he has never responded this way, I tried to talk with him about why he may be angry/sad, or if he had fun yesterday at the grandparents, But I'm not getting a clear answer into anything, I'm not sure if something happened at the grandparents yesterday that we do not know about? But he wanted to stay, not leave so I'm not sure what is going?? Anyone have any ideas??

Did he eat something out of the ordinary while you were gone? Things like sugar and food dyes can make some kids a little nuts.
Other than that, it doesn't really sound all that out of the ordinary for three-year-old behaviour. You can't expect a tantrumming child to reason with you, so you will probably just have to ride it out until he calms down. Does he still nap? I find naps can be great reset buttons on crazy days.

My first thought was perhaps he ate something that he normally doesn't eat and reacted strongly to it, or maybe he watched something on tv or too much tv that threw him off.
I second the nap idea, if possible, and maybe even try to put him to bed early tonight. I'm sure this will all sort itself out soon.
Good luck!

Sounds like "Grandma syndrome". LOL. My Mom was notorious for breaking all the grandkids when they were over there. She LOVED it.... and they loved it... but, it took days to reprogram the kids after she had a few hours with them.
We'd just get them back to normal and she'd come over and break them again.
