open bins/baskets, dust, and dog hair

I am really striving to set up our home so that "everything has a place", and my husband has built us some beautiful shelves. I love the look of things in baskets on shelves, everyone knowing where everything goes, etc. However, we have a dog. And I am constantly cleaning up dog hair. And the dog hair gets in the baskets or bins and down in the bottom and so on and so forth.

Any suggestions? Should I just skip the idea of baskets/bins and try to just find some nice fabric boxes? The only drawback to that is that I want my family to easily be able to clean up and put things where they belong, so if they have to open a box, I'm not so sure it's as likely to happen!

If possible you can restrict the dog from open bin areas with baby gates, but it won't be 100% effective.I restrict my dogs to one area and it helps.

Also, grooming/shaving the dog helps a bit. I get so annoyed with dog hair too.

How about getting boxes/baskets that are very close to the height of the shelves? I know you can do that with the IKEA systems, like these:

Or see through containers with lids?

Or a combo of both?

Doesn't need to be IKEA of course, it's just the first place I know of with a large selection of stuff like that. We have two dogs so I sympathize with the dog hair issue! I find frequent brushing helps get the loose hair out (love my shedding blade!) but one of our dogs is double-coated is it's a never-ending job. I also try not to have too much stuff out in the open cause I hate dusting with a passion.

yes..in our playroom, the bins fill then entire cubby and I've never seen dog hair inside. We use the fabric cubes and wooden cube storage units you can get at Target, Lowe's, etc.

In the living room, where the dogs spend tons of time, I've put dvd's in boxes with lids.

I've found I cannot use open baskets or bins in my laundry room...no matter how often the dogs are groomed. I've also stopped keeping anything, including storage bins or baskets on closet floors. With everything off the floors it is easy to vacuum and the hair doesn't seem to hide and float around

Many of my open bins are in furniture behind glass cabinet doors.
