Nazim Camilo, 8 lbs 8 oz, 21 inches, born 9:36am 2/21 by c-section. Labor and delivery went NOTHING like I imagined or planned. I labored without meds from 4am to about 10pm Saturday and the contractions were so long and intense, it was really really difficult. They lasted seriously 3-5 minutes and just kept coming back to back, both my doula and midwife were taken aback by how long, intense and frequent they were. And nothing helped...rocking, swaying, the shower, breathing...nothing! I finally got some Demerol at 10pm which didn't take away the pain but did let me rest between contractions. By midnight, I was fully dilated and effaced but when I pushed, the baby wouldn't come down. After an hour and a half of pushing that did nothing, the midwife recommended an epidural so I could sleep and try again. So at 6am, we tried again but the baby still was not budging and at 8am we gave up. She thought maybe he was wrapped in the cord and it wasn't letting him come down. So I had the c-section and now we finally have our sweet sweet baby!
But this was a tremendous lesson for me, I have to say...I NEVER thought I would get pain meds, an epidural or "give up" and have a c-section and perhaps have been a little judgmental when people do. But good god, this was easily the most difficult experience of my life, and I really don't know what I could've done differently.
And breastfeeding is rough with all the pain from the section. We're still having a little difficulty with the latch. But we're getting a little better.
I'll post pics when I get home, he is a cutie!

Hope you heal quickly. Birth can't be planned on--sounds like you did the right things.
