iTunes/Apps question

How can you manage it so all of the sexual apps don't show up? I think they are really disgusting, and don't want them showing up. Is there a way to block them?

One thing to try -- maybe have genius recommendations turned on? I have that setting, and I very seldom see anything yucky (I can only remember once). Otherwise, I am watching this thread, too. I hate stuff like that! In the meantime, I am trying to figure it out.

OK. I think I got it. Go to iTunes>Preferences. Then, in that dialogue box choose "parental controls". I just checked the box for "restrict explicit content" It said that it would not show up in preview or for purchase in the itunes store. There are more specific settings you can choose, too! YAY!

I did that but it still shows up. Why can't there be a separate category for that so you need to enter your password or something to access??? Why does it show up in the kids' section too???

If you figure it out let me know. I wish Apple never would have laxed their rule on this issue.

huh? This is so weird. It doesn't show up in mine. I wonder whether it is a bug? I am using a Mac. Does it show up on your device, as well? Have you rebooted since you made the changes?

However, it has never really shown up in mine, and that is weird, too.

Here is what Apple says: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1904

"For example, you can restrict explicit content from displaying in the iTunes Store. You can also disable podcasts, radio content, the iTunes Store, and shared music so that these items don't appear on the left side of the iTunes window."

FWIW, I am using an iPod, not an iPhone -- I wonder whether that makes a difference?

Well we are talking about apps only. I don't care to block music, so genius is not applicable because it only makes playlists and suggestions. There is a general limit applications to 17+ or 12+ ect in parent controls in itunes preferences. The problem is that I have no idea how they are defining something at 17+. Because I can tell you I don't have any apps I consider to be sexually explicit and I still get a warning saying contains adult content on a few of mine when they get updates. I wish I could remember which ones. I do have one that tracks your period ect.

Another problem, I do have a drinks recipe app, so yes it's probably flagged as 17+ ( since they don't have a 21+ label). I want that. I just don't need to scroll through the many stupid apps of look hot chicks scantily clothed

I was doing a search about this and guess what, looks like we won't have to scroll through it anymore

Apple has started banning many applications for its iPhone that feature sexually suggestive material, including photos of women in bikinis and lingerie, a move that came as an abrupt surprise to developers who had been profiting from such programs.

When asked about the change, Apple said it was responding to complaints from App Store users.

Philip W. Schiller, head of worldwide product marketing at Apple, said in an interview that over the last few weeks a small number of developers had been submitting “an increasing number of apps containing very objectionable content.”

“It came to the point where we were getting customer complaints from women who found the content getting too degrading and objectionable, as well as parents who were upset with what their kids were able to see,” Mr. Schiller said.

Well I'm thrilled.

Yes, I rebooted & restarted everything. It still shows up. I'm getting pissed about this.

I have an iTouch, but we also have an iPhone, & like 5 iPods. I'm using Itunes on the computer to download stuff. It's showing up in the store on my iTouch as well.

Guess I'll just need that shit shoved in my face!

If you read the article it said they were already removed. It was dated yesterday.

They are still on mine, and I have the latest version. Maybe DH was doing something he wasn't supposed too .

More likely they have only just started removing stuff, it's been one day. It also says it was based on complaints, so likely they started with those that people have complained about. I can't see how this has anything to do with your husband, the content is the same in all itunes stores.

I really doubt all of it will be removed; I'm sure they're making $$ off of it.
I hope they do. My ds got in some serious trouble for looking at things that were inappropriate. It would be much easier if you could block the stuff to eliminate that issue entirely.

I don't understand what you are all seeing. I have an iPod (an older one, without video but I could still buy video content for my PC) and download lots of music from the iTunes store onto both my PC and the iPod. I have never even seen anything sexual (besides maybe some music videos or explicit music). When I click on the iTunes icon, it opens my catalog, then I click on "store" from the menu on the left which takes me to the iTunes store front page. I type what I am looking for in the search box and off we go. Where are you seeing objectionable stuff? Is it on the front page as advertisements or what?

I've never noticed... Huh, guess I'll have to look around iTunes. I need to sync my iPhone anyhow.

These are apps for the iPhone/iPod Touch. You'd have to go into the App store to see them, I believe.

I do what Mama2Bug does and I've never seen any suggestive apps, either. I've been in the iTunes store a lot the last few days, too. I'm glad I haven't!

Meanwhile, I had a problem with an app I just downloaded (free) and I clicked "report a problem". Within a couple hours, I got a personal reply.

Maybe sending a message to Apple would be of value?

I can't even see a place to report an App, which I would do for sure, but can't. That crap is still there today. I highly doubt they are removing it.

I pretty much live on my itouch and have a ton of apps. I have NEVER seen anything sexual/offensive on iTunes in the app store. And I am on there a lot and got my iTouch the day they were first released. I was surprised when they started banning explicit apps in the past few days because I had always assumed they did.
