I just wanted to say how happy! 
We adopted a small lab mix from the SPCA, and he is such a great dog. He knows so much already; he walks with a loose leash, he sits to have his leash put on, he's cuddly and sweet and calm. I just love him! I'm sure I'll be posting on all sorts of issues as he a) recovers from kennel cough, and regains his energy, b) feels more confident that he is staying, and c) when the honeymoon period that I've read about is over. And that's fine, we'll deal with whatever comes along.
It's kind of bittersweet, too, because 1.5 years ago, we had a trial period with a dog that was too strong, too prey driven, and dog-dominant for us. It really, really upset me to give her back to the rescue before her trial period was over, but I couldn't handle her.
This time, it's very different. It feels like this lovebug been with us forever, he fits right in to our family. Thank goodness, the first dog found a great home with a family that has a hobby farm.
