Curriculum Suggestions?

I am rather new to homeschooling and while it is going well I feel I need a curriculum pack that will help me know what to do. I question myself every day if I am doing enough and if the children are learning enough.

I would like to know if any of you ladies have any suggestions of curriculum packs that have a sort of a guide or instructions for the parent to go by? I am looking for next school year and it will be grades K and 3rd.

TIA!

Well, we like Sonlight, though we tweak it, because it's Protestant, and we're Catholic. I like its Christian focus, and the IGs (Instructor Guides) are great - I don't have to do a lot of lesson planning. I just open the IG and go.

Sonlight has a Charlotte Mason "feel" to it. Living books, narration. I wouldn't start Sonlight until 2nd grade, though. Just my personal philosophy, but kindy is pretty relaxed - just learning how to write (as in penmanship) and learning phonics. First grade is about having fun reading and learning how to add and subtract. JMO.

One of the reasons I really do like Calvert is exactly because it "tells me what to do". I like the checklist at the beginning of every lesson.

I know a lot of people don't like that curr. (don't really know why), but it's worked for us. If there is stuff your kid already knows, you can just move on to the next lesson. No biggie.

Heart Of Dakota has days all laid out, as well. I think maybe Oak Meadow does, too? Oak Meadow is secular.

i'd look at www.homeschoolreviews.com
they list the most popular complete curricula (as well as resources by subject only) & they have reviews by parents listing the pros, cons, likes, dislikes, etc. hth.

Abeka and Alpha Omega Publications offer complete curriculum packages.

We're using Learn At Home, grade K next year. My criteria were that it needed to have each day planned out with what to do, require minimal prep time, and that it be inexpensive (it's only $14!). So I'm sure we'll change our minds throughout the year and try new things, but at least I have a 'main' coursebook to start off from.

I am currently using the Alpha Omega Horizons Preschool and the Learn At Home Kindergarten workbook this year with my 5 year old son and I can attest that it plans out each day for you and is well rounded. My favorite is the Learn At Home workbook as it has so many additional activities they suggest for you along with the daily plans and lessons. I will use the Learn At Home for next year and all the way through 4th grade. I only wish they went up higher in the grade level for their workbooks but they only go up to 4th grade.

Good luck!

Where can one buy Learn at Home? I googled it and didnt find much info...maybe i've got the wording wrong?
I've been considering Sonlight for the past year, but after going to HomeSchoolReviews.com...i've changed my mind a bit. Ummm...now to start back at square one!
On top of that, my 5yo doesnt want me to read books, he doesnt want to do anything schoolish at all. I'm at a loss!
