Natural Decongestant

I need a natural decongestant. I have so much mucous in my head it feels like there is constant liquid behind my eardrums. I have a minor runny nose. For about 5-6 weeks I had a huge, productive cough. Doc said it was allergies and put me on Zyrtec (not D). I am nursing, so she said not to use Zyrtec D. I neti pot every night.

I just feel like I have tons of liquid in my ears and I can't get it out. My DH always plugs his nose and tries to "blow" out his ears so they popped. I tried that today and I got so dizzy (lasted minutes) that I threw up.

Are there any natural alternatives that are ok for nursing moms? I am desperate here. I have a message with the doc, but she is more mainstream than I am and I need some relief fast!

Have you tried upping the neti pot to 2-3 times a day? I've had a sinus infection that I was about to go get antibiotics for, but I started using my neti pot 3x/day and within a couple days it was much better.

Stop all dairy immediately! Cheeses don't effect me much, but milk and ice cream produce instant mucous the next day. Sorry I don't know about supplements/herbs.

I do the blow out trick and it can be tricky to do. The secret is to relax your cheeks while 'gently' holding your nose and start blowing gently. Don't hold your breath and don't be rough with it. It's hard to explain, but I've been doing it all my life. Gradually blow a little more forcibly as you get the hang of it.

However, after your experience you may not want to try that again.

Wasabi? Horseradish?
