When she disrobes...

So, my almost two year old has taken to undressing herself and taking off her diaper and chucking both out of her crib at night.

Her crib is still in our room (though we were looking to move her soon) but I digress...

What kind of pj's can I put her in that she can't get out of? Alternatively, how can I teach her to keep her clothes on! Tonight, this game took almost 4 HOURS. I gave up when she managed to get out of the one-piece button up pj that I put on backwards.

Ah, my little houdini...

Is the diaper a disposable one? Duct tape can help. (See, I have experience with this.) You can also try a onesie t-shirt over it, and secure the bottom snaps from the inside with a diaper pin.

Two of my kids did this.

As far as the pyjamas themselves, I never solved that one. I just ignored them, let them do it, and then fall asleep naked, and then make sure I put covers on them. But the diaper thing was a problem, because then of course they'd wet the bed. My kids wore cloth until they were 2, and we used the pin trick. DS was the only one who kept on taking his off even past that age, and we wound up wrapping the diaper in duct tape every night, which looks hilarious and uses a lot of duct tape, but for me was way less hassle than changing the bed multiple times a night.

When my dd went through this phase I bought sleepers that zipped up and had the button cover over the top of the zipper. We cut off the feet so we could put them on her backwards, eventually she got bored of trying to undress and would leave all of her clothes (and diaper!) on.

For some reason my DD will strip if she is wearing a sleeper, either the button or the zipper kind, but won't if she is wearing two-piece jammies. So we stick with two pieces.

Ha!

Duct tape! I love it. It's perfect!

Oh dh is going to love this...

We used duct tape on our non-disposable diaper covers. They weren't pretty ones to begin with so it was OK. But we also ordered some locking covers. It's just a tough plastic buckle that connects the two velcro straps in front. Prowrap makes what we got, don't know who else might.

I always figured DD would cry or tell us if she were uncomfortably cold, so didn't worry about the PJ's part.

I used to babysit a little girl who's parents would put her sleepers with zippers on backwards & then secure the zipper with a diaper pin.

DD just climbs out through the neck-hole.

mine does too. She ends up naked most nights. Thankfully, she doesn't pee at night anymore.
Actually, she has been known to make any shirt she is wearing into a skirt.

Have you tried putting more and/or heavier clothes on her? I'm asking because if I'm cold while I sleep I end up without a shirt because I tuck my arms inside my shirt to get them warm and it just sort of happens.

Okay, yeah, that's a long shot, but it being winter, another layer might be comfy and slow her down.

I heard to put a bathing suit on under the jammies. Might keep at least the diaper on

So...she got out of the duct tape.

Seriously.

I knew she would shed the pj's (which after she removes she chucks over the side of the crib) but when she got to the diaper with duct tape around the waist SHE SIMPLY TORE THE DIAPER!!! The waist of the diaper and the duct tape was still around her but the all important crotch part was just a-flapping in the wind!

So, she wound up with a new diaper and duct tape around the waist AND front to back between the legs - like a chastity belt. (thanks, dh)

She didn't even try to remove that one. She finally gave up and feel asleep and slept better than she has in MONTHS! I don't know what the connection is and I don't care.

Chastity belt it is!

Ah... the stories you'll tell on her wedding day.

Have you tried just not even putting the PJs on in the first place.

Mine would chuck the PJs and while they were busy disrobing the diaper followed suit. However the PJs were what she didn't like. So if she never got started stripping because the PJs weren't even on the diaper never got touched.

My daughter has hated PJs since day one and just now at almost 4 will keep them on for any length of time. She'd even strip when it was cold so I just got her a heated mattress pad and called it good.

My son hated the feet in PJs. He'd keep everything on as long as the feet were cut off.

But with both of them once they started stripping they kept stripping till they were bare.

Whoops, sorry I wasn't more specific. We had to use the duct-tape in a chastity-belt shape also. When we first tried just a waist belt, she ended up with big back-flap of diaper-cover, and the diaper itself would fall out. Like a backwards, useless loin-cloth. The chastity-belt shape did work for us. Of course always with the free ends of duct tape in back, with the belt piece overlying the front end of the between the legs piece. She never was able to peel off duct tape from the back.

I think the cloth diaper covers are an advantage in this situation because they don't tear. I wonder, if you generally use disposables, if picking up a couple covers and taping them over the disposables might be sturdier?

How fast the time goes. Our little nocturnal escapist is now 3 and fairly civilized. Good luck.

You know, I CD during the day but use 'sposies at night. It never occurred to me to put a diaper cover over the 'sposie. Huh.

Anyhow, she's never had a problem with pj's before. My gut really tells me she just would rather get naked than sleep.

Long as she grows out of this stage, we'll be ok.
