Which temp should I use?

I am in the 2WW, or more like 10 day wait for me.

I normally take my temp around 7pm. This morning I woke up at around 6:30am to go to the bathroom. My son woke up too, so I went ahead and took my temp at 6:40am. I got a reading of 97.8 which put me way below cover line.

We ended up laying in bed for another half an hour and I took my temp at 7:07am and it was 98.3.

I don't know what temp to use and should I be concerned it was so low at 6:40 when I don't normally temp? Sometimes we get up at 6:50 and I take my temp then.

My chart in case it helps. http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/123e11 I have not inputed my temp yet today.

Was the first temp *after* you got up and went to the bathroom? If so, I'd throw out both temps and just skip the temp for today...sorry!

Yeah, the first temp was after I got up and went to the bathroom, but most mornings I get up and go to the bathroom before I temp. However, I usually get to go back to sleep.

if you use ff, you can use their temp corrector with the first temp. it will adjust for the time. i dont think you should use the one after you've been out of bed. but really, you can skip it. i'm not even temping once i am sure that i o'd. i dont see any reason to, other than make me frantic or give me hope that one lower temp maybe could possible be an implantation dip (or not) or maybe a high temp is the start of a triphasic trend (or isnt) and all that. i know when af is coming (or isnt) and i still input other stuff on my chart, but not temps.

Thanks for the info...how do I set FF to correct my temp?

I temp in my luteal phase at the recommendation of a midwife friend. There are lots of things you can learn about your cycle during this time. If you have a temp that goes down to or below cover line that can indicate a progesterone issue and if your luteal phase is short can indicate a progesterone issue. Also if you have difficulty with the temp rise meaning it takes more than a few days to shift, could indicate a problem. We decided due to past charts, that I could use progesterone due to my temps in the luteal phase.

yes, you are right about that temping after o if you arent sure about those things yet. fortunately or unfortunaely, i already know i have a luteal phase defect, and i am already on progesterone and b6! so for me, i sleep better not waking up and checking the time (cuz i always wake up a couple times before my alarm goes off) and trying to take my temp without the "beep" waking my poor dh! today when i woke up, i actually did take my temp just to throw one in there, and i thought it was light out so i thought it was near the time i was supposed to take it, and after i took it, i checked the clock and it was 2 hours earlier than i thought. then i couldnt go back to sleep! typical!

to use the temp corrector, when you go to your chart, on the left hand side there is that menu there- the second option down says "data" and when you hover over it, the menu that pops up, the last option there says temperature corrector.

Thanks, I am going to try it.

Well, I went ahead and entered my first temp at the recommendation of my midwife. Now I am depressed, because FF removed my ovulation day. I am sure I already ovulated, if I did I did at all. In fact, for the past few days my uterus has been sore, so I felt like something has been happening even though it may be early. FF originally said I ovulated on CD14, but I started drying up on CD13 so I felt like ovulation would have been CD12 due to copious amounts of EWCM and then a drying up trend starting on CD13. So this dip could possibly be implantation, but still it has me worried!!!

I used the temp corrector, but it didn't do anything really.

Well, I was looking at charts with implantation dips on FF and it looks promising. My uterus is sore. I really hope this is a good sign! The dips on a lot of charts where pregnancy occurred happened frequently below coverline.

yep, you can

just totally do not put in a temp today because it will be wrong whatever you put in...

the worst thing that could happen is that either you Oed yesterday or today and could have a 2 day period in which ovulation could have happened rather than 1 day. But since you are already past ovulation... you have nothing to worry about. Just don't put in the temp because temping after having already gotten out of bed and moved around is not reliable at all.

I understand what you mean. However, the fact of the matter is that every morning I get up to go go the bathroom before I temp. Sometimes it is 2 hours before sometimes half an hour. I have not seen a great fluctuation in temperature as a result over time. Even if moving around would have affected my temp, then my temp would have been higher rather than lower. Which the first temp was low after having gotten up to go to the bathroom.

I may leave the temp out however since I took it so early. However, I still think my temp would have been lower regardless.

You shouldn't be getting up before temping. Eyeballs open, it isn't 4 in the morning...temp. Using a temp after going back to sleep for a couple hours is not accurate either. Half hour earlier than normal (had you not gotten up) is more accurate than going back to sleep until regular waking time. It is more important to have it be after about 4 hours sleep than to be at the same time everyday.

IN that case I would never have an accurate temp. I almost always have to get up to go to the bathroom sometime before I temp. If I get up at 4am to go and go back to sleep I temp once I wake up. Sometimes I go to the bathroom at 6am and temp at 7am. My temps are always within a certain range minus a day or two of odd temps.

I think going back to sleep at 4 a.m. is reasonable but if you are up at 6 I would temp before pottying and use that one.

Tonya, are you using a Basal body thermometer? That can also help you get better temps.

I also temp sometimes after getting out of bed in the middle of the night. I always see a temp shift, but I do get some crazy temps occasionally (could just be my wonky cycles). The best thing for me is to just remember that the temps don't make you O, make you pregnant, make you not pregnant. What will be will be and we are just lucky that we have a bit of insight into the whole thing!

Good luck!
