Infant carrier for my large DH

My hubby wants to babywear but has trouble finding something to fit. He is 6'5, 320 pounds with a 54 inch chest. (So, he's barrel chested but with a narrower waist) He was using a sling he bought at Target which looks like the Infantino sling recently involved in a lawsuit, so he doesn't want to use that anymore.
Even the biggest slings are too small for him, and he likes the pouch style carriers... suggestions?

What about a ring sling? I have one that would *easily* fit him, it was made by a local mama and has a super long-tail. Is it possible to find something like that?

Otherwise, a meitai with extra long straps might work. I suspect that as the baby grows, he might want a two-shouldered carrier.

Maybe an Ergo? There's a waist belt extender that they sell separately since the waist area is not very big at all. Most dads really love Ergos. My dh hates backpacks so he refuses to try the Ergo but I've heard many dads love them.

How old is your baby?

(oh and I just read an article on that carrier and don't use it! Babies were having major decels in heart rates while being in them ... not good!)

I second the ring sling. I love mine and there are a variety of carries you can use with it, including a pouch carry. I love it now to carry my son on my hip while doing chores.

It should be able to fit your hubby no problem and then be readjusted to fit you as well!

Good luck finding something that will work! That is awesome he wants to baby wear. My husband never wants to Once when I wasn't home and the baby was tired he put him in the carrier and he passed out right away, lol.

You can make your own pouch carrier, it's easy, cheap and it will be made to fit him specifically. I think it's so sweet that your DH wants to babywear. My DH loves it as well but my ex never would do it

You can also get MT's with XL straps.

my barrelchested hubby prefers the beco and/or ergo with waist extender. other than that we have a MT with extra long straps that works as well, and a long RS.

my sweet bear of a dh wears the baby in a moby (you didn't mention how big/heavy your babe is). we also have an ergo, and i bought an extension for the waist; however, our dd is 4 months old and it's not comfortable for her yet to have him wear her in the ergo. i can wear her in it, but when he puts her on in it, it makes her splay her legs more.. i can tell eventually it will be fine, but if you're in my situation and need a "right now" solution, the moby is pretty awesome. plus we can both use it...

Dh is 6' 5" and 280, so slightly smaller but still a big man and he loves the Ergo! Just get the waist extention! He also uses my MobyWrap with no problems (size-wise) but he doesn't enjoy all the looping and wrapping involved....

Ergo or custom made long-tailed ring sling would probably be best. I have one ring-sling I made for my market stand that has such a long tail, I'm almost 6' tall and the tail comes down past my knees!

Thx, I think he's going to try an XL ring sling. The Moby just barely wraps around him and not enough to tie. I thought of maybe making one that was a little bigger but my babe is only 10 days old so I'm breastfeeding constantly adn don't see a sewing project happening right now! We do have a waist extender belt for the Ergo, I'm curious to see if that would work. My concern is across the chest, I think the strap there is still too small, but we'll try it out once babe is a little bigger.

i know you said he wanted the pouch slings, but try a wrap! my husband is a large guy, were talking 360lbs here, and he has a super broad chest and shoulders.... i have a sleepy wrap, and it fits him with room to grow they really arent hard once you understand how to tie them! i bought mine at kid to kid for $23
