My 7 m.o. DS is a terrible sleeper due to silent reflux. He wakes constantly- 20-45 minutes on a bad night, 1-1.5 hours on a good night. I recently started to cave and let him nurse like crazy all night to help us all get back to sleep quicker and I am afraid that I am setting myself up for future weaning issues...but that's another thread!
Our problem: DS has also been diagnosed with torticollis (head tilt) which is somehow related to the reflux. They get better or worse together. He sleeps on his tummy best, or at least he goes to sleep on his tummy best. We started putting him on his tummy at 4 months (before we knew about reflux or tort.) and before that he slept fine on his back. The problem with tummy sleeping is that he has to turn his head one way or another- in his case its 99.9% to the left. He just recently has begun to try to turn it to the right while sleeping, but its obvious that his body can't comfortably stretch that way. When he nurses to sleep at night, he usually sleeps on his side or his back, so that is positive, but he is still spending all his naps and part of the night on his tummy.
FWIW, I do not want to nurse him to sleep all the time for obvious reasons so I really want to find a way to encourage him to fall asleep on his back or sides.
