water bottle for home use

Our old home had awful water and we had to use store bought for drinking instead of tap water. We discovered that we drank a lot more water when it was in a convenient easy to grab bottle. This is especially important for DH who had a kidney transplant.

Our new home the tap water is fine, but we find we hate using glasses. DD also tries to grab and spill them. Even without her we just aren't drinking as much when we use glasses.

We want to buy reusable bottles for home drinking water. The big criteria are:
tasteless
dishwasher safe

I have no idea what to get.

I have a Kleen Kanteen and it meets both those criteria.

Same here. It never leaves my side.

Kleen Kanteen here too...get the sport cap, it makes it so easy to get into without having to constantly unscrew a cap.

Another vote for KK or similar steel bottles. I like the fact that they have wide mouths because they're easier to clean than the narrow mouth ones. However you may find the narrow mouth ones are more familiar if you are used to standard plastic water bottles. Around here all health stores carry some variety of these.

I believe the steel ones are all dishwasher safe, while the coloured ones should be hand washed.

i find that the kk's and other steel bottles do leave a taste, but i am really picky about my water.

i use a recycled voss waterbottle for around the house, its glass. its the 800 ml size. i love it.

i do use a ss water bottle when on the go because i am clumsy and would hate to break glass all over the super market or something.

I use the Thermos nissan hydration bottle, it's great, and very well insulated to keep my drinks COLD - http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Nissan...7114141&sr=8-1

Perier Bottles!

I love bubbly water and Costco used to sell a case of the smallish glass ones for $20. They can go in the dish washer and don't have a taste and we have dropped them numerous times on the pavement and haven't broken any yet -- I do try to be careful though.

We have been using them for over a year now and are pleased with them and started using them for around the house use also.

Not to thread jack, but any recommendations for a decent heavy plastic bottle?

I work in a prison and cannot bring in any metal or glass containers. Understandable rule, but makes it difficult to find a reusable drinking container. I get sick of buying water bottles...they cause so much trash, the water tastes like plastic unless its super cold, and after a few weeks of buying them I could have bought a nice stash of decent reusable containers.

How about a camelbak bottle? the ones you get now are BPA free. I do have some issue with the valve getting grungy after a while. I also love my Nalgene bottles- which are also BPA free now.

I have a sigg that stays filled in my fridge at all times. If I had the money I would go with kleen kanteen though. My girls have them and love them. They have a nice wide mouth so you can add a few ice cubes and run out the door in the summer. Siggs are fine(now that the bpa liner is fixed) but the narrow mouth is a pita. I wish I'd originally invested in a kk for myself. But sigg does the job.

Well DH has decided he will not do metal. It has to be glass. I might try a Kleen Kanteen for me though. I'll have to order because no one has them nearby according to the website.

thermos brand are all glass lined, that would be good for your husband, they have smaller ones that could be used as a waterbottle. but i'm cheap and just reuse voss bottles like i said above. some people like getting fancy though.

I like this:
Tap Water glass bottle

I saw it in a catalog too. Maybe SkyMall? I just flew cross country so I'm thinking it was in there.

I like the look of the FLYlady bottles (www.flylady.net) even though I don't own one - see my location and do the maths about the shipping.
I bought some SS bottles in a supermarket here which have a wide mouth and a little sieve inside - probably meant to keep green tea leaves in the bottle but they also work for half-melted ice-cubes. A wide mouth is very convenient if you like to drink cold water!
