Lidocaine for filling?

Anyone had a filling done while pregnant? I am scheduled to have one tomorrow and am very nervous. Don't want to do it at all, but I am having sensitivity and the last thing I want is an infection of some sort and and emergency.

My midwife said that Lidocaine (without epinephrin) is fine, and everything I read seems to say that as well. Still, it crosses the placenta and that makes me so nervous! I know that a lot of women have dental work done during pregnancy, but there is so much hype about not doing it. Anyone know much about this? Thanks!

I've had to have a six tooth bridge ripped out and re-installed, and Friday I go in for a root canal. My dentist was very careful to assure me that the lidocane was very safe.

The bad news is that the lidocane wore off halfway through, they couldn't give me more because of the preganancy, and I had to be drilled with no pain relief, and it was the worst dental experience I've ever had. Praying that my root canal isn't the nightmare that my bridge was.

My own doc's even OK with the epinephrine (I'm not, though, if I can avoid it--not due to pregnancy but due to the ick factor).

I had lidocane no idea at all if it had epinephrine in it when I had a tooth pulled when I was around 12 weeks pg with ds. Never even thought about it being a problem.

My doc's OK even with the epinephrine (Category C, some animal toxicity in really high doses but nothing noted in humans).

A dental infection can be a bad thing during pregnancy, so doc's say it's worth the risk.

I've had dental work while pregnant. Once without anything, once with a type of anesthetic that did not contain epinephrine -- I don't know if that is what the Lidocaine is? I didn't know the name. It did wear off midway, but I am pretty used to dental pain after the horrible pediatric dentist I had. If you think you can handle it and they don't have to drill all of the way to your nerve, it can really be not that painful.
