Would you use childcare at gym? - Page 2

I have used the childcare at my gym and my older children really do like it. They do not accept children under 1 year, but even so I am afraid of the germs. I do not vaccinate and while I agree with other posters that germs help to build a good immune system, there are many diseases I'd rather my youngest babies not be exposed to while they are so young. At my particular gym, I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving a nine month old because they do not have a seperate baby area and it just isn't as clean as I feel it should be. I feel that another PP was right about vetting the childcare at your particular gym.

I use my gym's childcare, but not for the younger children.

As of tomorrow, I will be using the childcare room at my gym. It's that or work out after 9 PM, and that's something I can't commit to.

I don't have a problem with it. There are super strict rules about the child to caregiver ratio, not that there are ever enough children- I think I'm the only woman who even USES my gym sometimes.

The thing I was most worried about was security- can someone just walk in and claim my baby? But they use photo ID for pick-ups, so I'm at ease with that. Plus I'm only working out for 30-45 minutes (I have a treadmill at home and do my cardio there- I only use the gym for weights), so if I can get the daycare personnel to wear her which I'm working out, she'll likely just sleep the whole time anyways. If she NEEDS me, they can come get me- I'm 30 seconds away. no big deal.

Yes I plan to use my gym's daycare. They put video of the daycare playing on TVs near the treadmills so you can check up on your babes. Besides, they don't feed or change diapers so that means fewer germs to worry about. They just page you on the pa if your babe needs something.

Yes, this. I do take my kids now...but i waited for dd to become older and verbal before doing so(2.75 yo). I did let ds go much younger(1.75), because big sis was there to let me know if something bad happened. It;'s teh ONLY time I've ever left my kids with anyone other than a parent/close family member, ever.

I think physical health/physical fitness is very important to life, and making physical fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices a priority is extremely important to teach and model to your children. Of course, i don't think you should sacrifice your childs safety or emotional well being, so you migth have to find some sort of compromise. If the child isn't opposed to it, I would absoltely go. From my experience, most kids like the gym daycare. If the child has serious issues with it, I'd try to find a compromise. I will say my oldest dd hates it and cried and cried when i first tried to take her at 2/75, but now at 5, LOVES it.
i will say that they seem really good at my YMCA gym daycare. Like, even though they've only gone a handful of times inthe last few months, the teachers call my kids by name, and when i walk up to get them, they recognize me, and know exactly who my kids are, etc. They also change my cloth!

I would not. I never let strangers take care of DD.

I always think---would I leave a million bucks in a stranger's care? Not.

So I always find a way to exercise with her---walking outside, yoga tapes, etc.

I just started a thread over in Parenting, because my daughter informed me that my 1 yr. old son was playing in the toilet on Friday when they were in the YMCA childcare room. For the most part, my dds 5 and 3 like it ok, they don't jump for joy. The three of them kind of stick together and don't talk to anybody else for the most part. There are times when there are lots of kids in there, and I guess it could get out of hand. When I was dropping them off on Friday, I put the baby on the floor and some other kid bopped him down and he started crying.

The adults seem really nice, but I do worry about their ability to fully supervise that many kids. The room is nice, lots of fun toys. And I looooove being able to work out again, and I agree that health and fitness and all that are important to me, and I want my kids to know that.

No, I would not leave DS in a gym daycare. At least not in this area. But I used to work in daycare licensing and I've seen it all. I would love to be able to go to the gym regularly-our treadmill broke and our local gym cut its hours so by the time DH gets off work and home, I'm out of time. But now that the weather is nice, I'm going to start putting DS in the jogging stroller and lifting weights at home. It'll have to work for now.
