How'd you know your infant was reacting to wheat in your diet?

Just wondering. I usually bake our bread with spelt, but last Thursday started using hard spring wheat a neighbor gave me (I grind it in our mill- it was fresh). Sunday, baby got fussy- she went from a contented little thumb sucker who lays on her tummy and sleeps half the day in her bassinet, to wanting to be in the sling ALL THE TIME and unable to fall asleep on her own at all... has remained this way since. Pretty sure she already went through her 3 mo milk supply increase- she's almost 4 months. My husband said maybe she's just more aware now and doesn't want to be alone and sleep so much, but I think she seems tense and fussy.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I can attest that at 4 months many babies get pretty fussy and their sleep changes. Some have a pronounced "4 month sleep regression" (mine did!). It is a time of big developmental growth, so your husband could be right. If it is easy enough to remove the wheat, give it a try and see what happens. Then reintroduce it and see what happens again!

My daughter had blood in her stools. When I went grain free (based on the brilliance of the Allergies board - seriously, those gals know everything) it stopped.

Well, my husband has celiac so I was already prepping myself for the possibility of a gluten sensitivity. My son had reflux and was on medicine but I started to notice that any time I would eat a big-time wheat meal for dinner (pizza, pasta) his reflux would be really really bad that night. So after a couple nights of that I went gluten free and he never had those problems. Thankfully he has outgrown his reflux (finally). I also tried giving him a small dose of wheat once when he started eating table foods just to make sure. And he had horrible reflux from it. He's been gluten free ever since.
